A non-collector friend of mine kind of lucked into this coin, and I was wondering what the experts of CoinTalk thought of it. I haven't seen the coin itself, but by the pictures, it seems to match variety 1A. What do we think: real or fake?
I forgot to add, if you voted fake, please also post a reply explaining. If you voted bacon, well... BACON.
Is this something you were considering buying? Do you know why it's bad? Beyond the overall appearance, mushiness, etc that's a tad too vague to be meaningful, on the obverse there's a "marker" present on many low end Chinese counterfeits.
Nope, I'm not considering buying it. It belongs to a friend of mine and he wants to know if it's real or not. Which marker are you seeing?
Here.... compare: http://i01.i.aliimg.com/wsphoto/v0/...Silver-b-font-font-b-Dollar-b-font-font-b.jpg
After a quick look I found 2 repeating marks on the obverse and one on the reverse... I wait to see what you reveal so others can try; or "I'll show you mine if you show me yours" Haven't played that game in 65 years!
There certainly may be others elsewhere, but one in particular near the shield. Take another look... it'll be hard to miss now.
Ok, I see a ding a little to the right and near the top of the shield that seems to match up on both.
Just saw another on the obv. What I needed to do to play this was to copy and print your coin. Then I opened "Books's" comparison coin and made the image larger. Now it goes quickly.
