All I know is that if you were a baseball player you'd have one devil of a batting average...........
Ancient coins. I don't think it means anything other than the fact that the collectors of ancient coins are addicted to the "like" button. There seem to be quite a few in top 10 list. We do have more fun than everybody else, though. That much is certain.
Oh my. so embarrassing. How did we all miss the title? 'Let's rate the members...' For sure, mine has never been rated less than premium.
I still find you um....tolerable anyway. Kind of proves the point that number of likes doesn't equate to knowledge or likeability.
I guess I need to start liking your posts more often. I'll see a subject and think, I wonder if Conder101 replied yet.
The current "Likes" have only been around since roughly July 4, 2013 when Cointalk was transitioned to the new software. All of the "likes" accumulated by those of us who were around before that were lost when the new software was changed over. So, the ratio basically means nothing. I asked @Peter T Davis multiple times if he was going to reinstate/move over the old likes to the new system, and at least once he said he would. I didn't care about my personal likes, but I did use the "like" system for a good 2.5 years or so to keep track of the threads that I wanted to save. I wasn't very happy when I lost that in the upgrade...but, such is life.
There are a lot of factors that go into these things. It's much deeper than just popularity and politics. Let me tell you a couple stories to make the point. I used to play hearts on the net and fancied myself a very good player so I signed up at one site as "king of hearts". I lost every game. Other players dumped points on me from the first card. I signed up again as "knave of hearts" and won almost every game. I'm on a science site where people can rate your post as being scientific or unscientific and then posters are rated accordingly. At first I was just trying to feel my way around and got lots of good ratings but as soon as I started posting about another way to view the evidence the rating dropped like a stone. Rather than agreeing or disagreeing with a post many people will just "like" or "dislike" it. Having a "dislike" button especially seems to stifle discussion.
I never give the likes very much thought. If I see a post that I like for any particular reason I hit the like button. To rate posters by that criteria is nonsensical.
Paddyman98 said: I don't know how to do the percentage.. can someone help me figure it out? I can help you with that...when you divide the # of likes by the # of your posts, you get the percentage. Yours comes out to: 6% errr, I mean minus 6%
Likes for me are two fold, maybe three fold. I'll post a like if only to let the poster know that I've read his/her post and agree with it's premise. I'll post a like for something that I feel was really educational for me and to the community (here) at large. And I'll post a like for something that I think is 'drop dead' funny and has me ROFL..........
I agree. That's what I thought "likes" were. Now what is a "best answer?" Many of the" likes" I give are ALSO great answers and very educational.
