I don't know if it's worth the price or not. But it looks good. :)

They are more rare and CAC says it means the coin would get a CAC in a grade a full point higher.

Already too rich for my blood. I will, however, say that I have paid 5x "book" value for a coin with exceptional toning and eye appeal before, and this one is "only" at around 2.5x I'd say let your gut decide if this is the coin for you.

Way overpriced based on the gold CAC.
And I think some of the price is based on the rainbow toning.
But a big chunk of the higher bids are based on ignorance.

Given the gold sticker means it should be a grade higher, that's still a very hefty premium (in my view) for the toning, about 2.5 times as Paul said. Having said that, I will add that toned coins are not a big priority of mine in the first place.

OGH + Gold CAC = people hitting the bid button like rats in a Skinner box, hoping for that reward.

Following the formula for really nice toners, it is well within the 2-3 times normal price for grade. Would I spend that kind of money?? Not for that coin, based on it being a very common date. Right now, I find the price of cc dollars comparatively inflated anyway for the common dates, which had a very high survival rate. Toning is another story. I have seen comparable toning on the other Morgan dates, such as the 1884 o and 1881s go for $250-300. They are really in the same category as the 1882-1884cc dollars, but the cc dates are generally hyped so much.

I've always wondered why the 1884-CC is so expensive, especially since there's a bunch (900,000?) of them that are uncirculated. You'd think that would be one of the cheaper uncirculated dates, but apparently not.

I agree completely. ALL THREE dates are so available in MS condition that they should be significantly cheaper than they are--due to the GSA horde, they survived in droves. Some of the LATE 1890s New Orleans mint coins that one would think common have huge price jumps in high grade MS condition due to conditional rarity, and everybody goes on mintages alone. However, the survival rate is what should make some Morgans way pricier than they are, and others way cheaper.

What formula??. $1700 for a 64 coin??:yack: even in MS65 the GS bid is only $475.

I thought it was a calculation based on estimated survival and population reports. So the quickest way to drop the price is to send more of them in to get graded (which I am not helping). Popularity probably factors in too.
