Nice!!! I see the 1989 Shell or Mobile President tokens. I had guy trying to sell the complete set. With the board and the Reagan token in set . But had no buyers for it
I picked up a couple Christmas medal/card things that were stamped "pure bronze". There was another card with a medal that didn't indicate what it was made of, paid $2 each. Turns out the 3rd one is UN Youth for Peace sterling silver medal. Also got this which I assume is really rare and valuable - Ha! I only paid $1 so I thought it was worth that but probably not. But still interesting.
Captain John Paul Jones from the US Mint's America's First Medals reproductions. They were struck during the Bicentennial era. The reverse shows the Bonhomme Richard up against the HMS Serapis. Presumbly so the plunder crew could board after the Serapis surrenderd. Or to negat the superior fire power of the Serapis by being too close for them to use anything but small arms. Both ships lost half their crew in the battle but Captain John Paul Jones won. US Mint. M/A 38mm, 20.6 grams, antiqued pewter
Detriot People Mover transportation token. White metal, C/A, 22mm, 7.2grams. According to seller it's Atwood-Coffee MI225T. This is one wupped upon old boy. I think maybe it's a cosmic fractal of Detriot itself. . But hey, it only cost $1.75.
\\ Thanks Bruce. I'm still amazed at the condition of it. The clock hands glow in the dark from, I think, Radion which may help to date it. It's the first clock I've owned that needs to be wound counter clockwise.
Sorry about the upside down pic. Too late to fix that one. Here's a new one upright. You guys really ride a people mover for 25c? Or are the tokens obsolete and selling for 25c? Cost $2.25 for trip on Miami Metro Rail or $5.65 for a day pass.
Don't really know what it costs, I haven't been in downtown Detroit in 14 years, Now that I retired from the ops dept of the school board no reason to go. I do occasionally drive the freeway @ 65/70 thru the city., Again no reason to stop, Don't do the casino's. More stuff good is going on in recent times Chief of police is great and believes in an armed trained carry citizenry. As he said in a national interview when he was hired, First place he ever seen the bad guys wearing bullet proof vest to protect them selves from the armed citizen's! I only know that more of them are in the 25 cent boxes then any where else. Plus it spends more time not working than working either sections or the whole line. Given the fact that it goes no where in a circle, I don't know if they sell passes or not. I will look in the collection and see if there are any other styles.
Real Estate is danged cheap. Should I get in on the ground floor or should I look to Cleveland?...........
Well the guy that owns Quicken and the BB team from Cleveland already owns around 85 buildings and properties in Detroit. and the price is going up on property in the downtown and mid town area by the minute. Do a google fly by of Detroit start by the city airport, all that green is vacate land, some sections no buildings for 1/2 mile in any direction. They have started large scale tract farming in some areas.
It's sad to see what has happened to the Great Lakes and Pa. We would not have won World War ll without their industrial capacity. That was the reason Admiral Yamamoto practically begged the Emperor not to attack us. He toured the factories in Pa and Great Lakes and he knew before the war even started that Japan would eventually be out outputted. And then the Hellcat came along, by the thousands, and Japan was out outputted, out climbed, out turned and out dived. . I hope Detriot and the other cities can "rise again." They sure deserve another shot at it.
