Jeeze Bing, all around the holiday season. It is tough when we loose someone around the holiday. I lost my dear Aunt the day after Xmas 2011, unexpectedly, I thank my lucky stars I was able pop in on the 24th of that year. I am sorry for your lose and my thoughts are with you and your family.

Ken Dorney Yea, I'm Cool That Way...

I met Tom in 1987, the year I had a table at a show for the first time. I was 18 at the time and others would walk by and shake their heads (some in disgust) but Tom sat down and gave me lots of pointers, showing me some attribution and pricing mistakes, etc. He came to be my mentor in the business. Gave me tips on how to produce a paper catalog, photography, etc. On my first trip to London he introduced me to people such as Basil Demetriadi and a host of important dealers. I have many stories. He always had a knack for finding top notch restaurants and we always ate well while at shows and had good wine. I’m still in shock and have thought a lot about him in the last week. He was one of my best friends in the business.

Is this confirmed, Ken? If it is, it is a great loss to the world of ancients. I have known Tom since the late 80's and I have bought from him and sold to him. My first trip to the NYINC was in December, 2000. We stayed in the hotel between the World Trade Centers (9 months before they came down!). I have wonderful memories of a dinner at an Italian restaurant with Tom and Mike where many bottles of wine were quaffed!

Oh, my goodness! I have been away from this board for a few weeks and this is the first I heard of this!

What a loss to the numismatic community! He wasn't very old, either--just mid-late 50s. I saw him just this past October at the Denver Coin Show. He and I chatted for a while about some Severan dynasty bronzes.

I live in Portland and have know Tom since the early 80's. I briefly worked for him.
I have been in contact with Mike and offered help. So far I haven't heard back from Mike. I'll update as I get information.

I learned a lot from Tom, Mike was a good fit and understood how to work with Tom.
Tom respected Mike's knowledge. I purchase many Byzantine coins from Tom.
The community will miss him. I have no idea concerning the disposition of his estate.

I have been away from the ancient coin business for a dozen years now, but every year or so Tom would call me or I him, and we would chat. I'm just hearing this news, and I'm very saddened by it.

Tom Cederlind was, like Ken, my mentor as well. I was in business for many years, and one of the early dealers on the web. Tom was instrumental in educating me, supplying me, being generous with his time and knowledge. He was always fun to be with (many a show I spent with him) and I will never forget him.

    RIP, Tom.

Yeah, what Thom Bray said. Tom C helped many of us in the Portland, Ore. area as well as around the country. Has anyone heard from Mike B.?
Welcome to the group Thom. Nice to see you are still around.
