@jpcienkus requested these, so here is my batch of GSA Morgans back from NGC (aside from the infamous 1878) Overall I am pretty happy with the grades, the exception being an 1884 I thought was PL.
We have talked before. For what it is worth, I missed the + but I didn't see any coin even close to PL.
Yes, I thought it was PL from a photo, I was wrong. People do some wonderful tricks with photos. What does "missed the +" mean
That's life! The seller of the 1878 was actually stand up about it, so I didn't really lose much there. There are good people out there!
Yeah, those two were surprises. For the 85, I think a lot of the marks you see are from the planchet. For the 82, the cheek is super clean. I take horrible photos, as has been pointed out to me. Edit: Or you guys are right, it could be "grade creep", the hotly debated issue.
Nope! Those are not planchet marks on the cheek. This coin should be a straight 64 AT BEST. I think you've got it confused with the 84CC, MS64+. Those look like marks on the planchet. Chris
Thanks! I'm holding most of them until I find an upgrade, but I will probably sell the 1882 MS65 and the 1878. I would sell the other duplicates but I don't want to take too big of a hit. If there's any you're interested in PM me. If I can avoid the 13% Ebay hit I can probably give a good price.
Insider said: ↑ Thought it was a 65. I should have added your question to my answer. I agreed w/all the grades except I missed the 65+ and thought is was just a 65.
I'm referring to the two deep, wide & parallel marks, not the thin, fine lines. It is the two wide marks that would keep it from getting a 64+. Chris
That could be true, except that's what it was graded. I do believe, however, that those marks were on the planchet before the coin was pressed. Perhaps this is what NGC also saw. This is only my opinion, and could be wrong. I do however think I got lucky with the 81. Edit: I take that back, the fields and reverse bailed out the 81
