I can't find any references with the obverse (winged figure) and the lettering is not good.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks!

I'll offer a hint. The reverse is the SECVRITAS REIPVBLICAE type, which was issued by several emperors after the Constantines.

Maybe. Or the OP is quicker than some.

Never overestimate the knowledge of newbies (and I definitely include myself, particularly for ancients), be nice.

I didn't intend any slight, against anyone, honest! I thought the hint would help, but the lettering on the coin is difficult to read if you're not familiar with Latin script on coins. But he comes back with Valens, bam! I'm just paying him a compliment.

I guaranteeeeeee that you will not be impressed with me when I start to ask some questions about my ancient CRH finds (uncleaned).

No worries, Kentucky, no question is too basic. I was a newbie once also, and it was by the good grace of Doug Smith (in particular) and others that I slowly learned the ropes.

Anyway, this is all TIF's fault. She gets mad at me when I just hand out the answers. :p

    TIF Always learning.

:joyful::joyful: Well... sometimes that's true. When the poster has been here a while and posts frequent ID requests despite having been gently and repeatedly shown how to find the answer it gets annoying.

I'm also impressed that @monetarium found the answer so quickly.

Gee, I wonder to whom you're referring (LOL).

Just to clear up a point, the winged figure (Victory) is on the reverse, not the obverse.

Thanks, TIF! Well, with that hint from John Anthony it was easy enough to find the answer.
Sometimes I have the same problem with ancient Roman coins from the late period if you can't get any hints from the images or the inscription... The faces of the emperors look pretty similar!
