What coin would you give away to a early coin collector for Christmas?

I would give away a 1970p Kennedy half dollar for a start.

I would give away a 1941-P Walker in MS-64/66 depending on the person i'm giving it to.

 

Depends on the series that they collect. Once they get above a certain threshold it might be better if you gave them cash towards their next purchase. A few of my non-collecting relatives tried to buy me coins and got sucked in cheap junk that looked really nice at a glance. Still it is the thought that counts.

Give them something from the 5th century BC.

 

What about for an American coin?

 

When I hear Early American Coin I automatically think large cent.

 

Maybe a 2 cent piece?

 

I always give 2 cent pieces away.. first coin with In God We Trust.

 

Must be nice to be young enough to call a 1970 Kennedy an early coin.

 

I'd give them a Morgan dollar or a seated coin.

 

Is this someone new to the hobby? If so I would get them a book they don't have. Maybe the big Red Book or a grading guide...either the ANA's or the one from Coin World. If a book wasn't appropriate or I couldn't get my hands on one and they already had a speciality I would try and get them a nice coin outside the speciality.

 

In 1970 the Kennedy halves were only struck in Denver and SF. Are you trying to be funny? Try harder ;-)
