I go through phases. Early bust halves are my favorite, but they can get expensive. Lately I've purchased mostly mercury dimes and walking liberty halves. They fit my budget much better
So many to choose from, gotta' say this one right now: from the Colosseo Collection. For the design and the way it was minted.
One more. Besides the Peace Dollar generally, this is my single most favorite coin. Passed to me by Dad.
If I were to pick the favorite coin in my collection it would be this one: It is not my rarest, nor most expensive, but I simply love the toning on the obverse. In hand the copper toning shimmers and the dark cyan on the rims is very cool. It is also my first "big" purchase. I paid well over market and I'm glad I did.
My favorite is my avatar coin, the first old coin I ever found in circulation, and the one that got me to start collecting when I was about 6. It's a 1941 wheat cent.
We've owned this 1924-D $20 St. Gaudens gold since 1982. Wife and I were antiquing at a small shop and got to talking to one of the customers who had this and a 1882-P $10 Gold coin for sale. They lived nearby so we waited as they went home to get the coins. We bought them on the spot never actually knowing if we were paying too much. Fortunately the seller was honest and we got a really good deal on both. Today's value is [5] times our original cost!
Depends on what day you ask me. My "favorite coin" is my avatar coin, a gift which will never leave me. My favorite issue depends on what thread I'm reading at the moment.
OMG! Love that it has the original casting spurs for the flan. Appears to have been minted and deposited right away. I have some bronze from Syracuse with large casting spurs that sort of make you wonder how someone didn't just break it off.
