Fun story at a coin show: I was looking through the Seated Dime bin when I saw this one marked as "no date" for $3. Looking closer at the date area, which was blocked up by scratches, I could tell it was 1858. Bought it for $3, of course.

You know seated coinage has a hook to it.....once you take the bait they just reel you in......
I just Cherry picked my Festivus Gift off e bay the other night...... no hints yet I hope to post it in a few days. Well maybe just one .....it's a DDO. And the best part only $19.95! :)

It's HIGHLY unlikely that will happen to me.
I avoid large issues (LS, Barbers, etc.)
I want to stick to issues that I can (or at least think I can) complete within a few years.
Exception: My FE/IHC set. Still 3 coins to go after 5+ years.

I chose Seated Quarters specifically due to the 'toughness' of the collection.

Sitting here at 27/28 I was thinking to myself, what series could i collect that will keep me busy for a couple decades and not be bored because I finished my set in a hurry. I also liked the idea that lots of people get scared away on working on a compete set of seated quarters, so not so fierce of competition, and then they are still pretty underrated, so an opportunity for a financial gain somewhere towards the end of this endeavor.

I like them for those reasons, they are silver, not a tiny denomination that strains my eyes and with enough heft to feel like I'm actually holding a coin. Not so big as to be focused on like halves and dollars, and so here I am. Just plugging along on the Seated Liberty Quarter series.

ETA: I also inherited like a 90%-95% Complete Washington Silver Quarter Collection, so I just naturally stayed with the quarters as my denomination of choice. Really SUPER long term goal is to acquire as many different US Business Strike Quarters as I can possibly obtain.

    In a week I turn 74.
I'm relatively sure I don't have "a couple decades" to complete a set :oldman:

    Christmas Day Birthday?

And I guess youre right, everyones situation is a bit different though. I just knew I would get bored with something like Peace Dollars or Washington Quarters for the next 30, 40, or even 50 years Lord willing i live that long.

Yep, December 25, 1941, 18 days after Pearl Harbor.
Ft Jay, Governor's Island, New York City, NY.
My father was in the US Army which made my mother nervous.
Apparently she had a view out of the hospital window of the Statue of Liberty across the river.
She was worried that the Japanese were going to bomb NYC at any moment.

About Xmas time every year she would remind me that my birth made her miss a Xmas dinner ;)

Love the color on this one, will be going to PCGS sometime in 2016. 1838 Seated Dime Lg Stars Au58.jpg
1840/1840 NGC XF45, thinking of sending it back in to get the variety placed on the label. NGC only shows 2 in their population report. 1840 Seated Liberty Half Dollar.jpg
NGC VF35 Stacks 57th Hoard. I thought it was well undergraded.
    1853 Seated Liberty Half Dollar.jpg
Better Date nice original toning VF30 if I remember correctly.
    1856-O Seated Liberty Half Dime.jpg

This one is raw I think I might try and send it in for grading. I think it might be a 25 or a 30. Don't know if the scratch will keep it from grading. That's why it didnt go in with the 56-O half dime above. 1858-O Seated Liberty Dime.jpg

1866 Seated Liberty Half Dollar. Will also be heading to PCGS later in 2016.
1866 Seated Liberty Half Dollar Au55.jpg
1877-CC. It's either a XF45 or AU50 in my opinion, still haven't decided if I'm going to send it in for grading yet.
    1877-CC Dime.jpg
This 1891 needs a new holder, but I love the cobalt blue toning
