very nice, that second one is beautiful and looks slightly undergraded.

Thanks, Frank. The second 1898 is undergraded - but I am not going to fight City Hall - considering it'd cost the price differential between the AU 50 & the AU 53 grade, to have it resubmitted and with Postage & Handling with new grading fees.

Still - its a great dupe to have in the wings...

Newp - an upgrade for the Halves - the worst struck of all Barber Halves: 1902-O.
My newp is no exception - its the toning that sold me on this one:

Just a quick glance at that coin, Elbesaar, and I graded it XF. Don't get me wrong, I think the coin is lovely, but I was seeing some wear on both the laurel wreath and shield on the eagle. So where am I going wrong? Is it die wear? Or am I just seein' things?

As I said..."the worst struck of all Barber Halves" Just a soft strike as 90% are of this date and mint. The price for a perfect strike is perfectly ridiculous.

My XF 40 is also weakly struck. The shield is notoriously weakly struck. Its got nothing to do with wear, its all about the strike.

    I agree, the '02 O is a terrible strike.

I looked for years, and only found a F-12, which is probably really a VF

Am retired, so I can't afford nice high-end Barber's, but I bought this as a Xmas present for myself.

I like the Barber halves. I have a 1912 D VF. I'm with you, I'm on a budget as well.

I sold this coin at auction in 2011 - a friend bought it and has recently upgraded it with a 66. This old gal is coming home when I get to FUN:

Thanks, she really is a neat coin. I'm thrilled to get it back.
I remember the day I bought it from HLRC as if it was yesterday.
Just happy a friend bought it in my 2011 auction at the ANA pre-
sale in Chicago. I always enjoy picking up a few of my oldies !!

Picked up a couple of upgrades for my Quarter set yesterday.
    An 1894 Philadelphia in PCGS 58 ( replaces my 55 ) and a drop
dead beautiful 1901 Philadelphia in PCGS 63+.

I have trouble posting images from my iPad....so, later !!

The Gals at JJ Teaparty have set aside a couple of Dimes for me...

I never captured the images of the second coin - sorry.

I did buy this Dime on eBay from TNFC - a decent 58 -

The images are terrible !! I was very pleased with the coin in hand.

This 1901 was shipped, but hasn't arrived yet - I expect it by Tuesday:

Well, FUN was a lot of FUN !!

Only spent a day and a half there - but, I met up with a bunch of friends -
we did some trading / buying and selling.

I spotted an amazing 1909 Half that I was under bidder on a few years ago,
on a Goldberg's auction. I ended up buying it for far less than my max bid -
    which doesn't happen very often.

Excuse the terrible images - they are the auction house's. I just sent the coin
to CAC - as its pretty special...

I also have about a half dozen others to show off. Later though.

I located the images I copied when I first laid eyes on this Half Dollar.
The Goldberg images are the worst - amazing the coin ever sold at all.

This is really what it looks like>

I've been slowly upgrading my V Nickel set. This collection was started by my
Grandfather - and when he passed - my Grandmother gave me his coins.
My newest one: 1896 PCGS 63 - a decent coin that doesn't break the bank:
