Yep, Gol get on it, these emperors are awesome! I got both of these for a third of the price of that Carus I was considering the other day.
Greg your Carinus: Rome, RIC 155c, 2nd. emmission Dec.282. The Numerian : Ticinum, RIC 266A, 2nd emission Dec.282
Don't know but... In general, many 1st issue coins of emperors look less like the later ones because the cutters had not yet received up to date portraits to copy. They may have had information on what the man looked like years before or they may have just adapted the look of the last emperor. I believe you could make a nice specialty collection of misplaced faces like Vitellius looking like Otho or Septimius looking like Didius so maybe we have a hairy Carus for the set.

Carus, Carinus, and Numerian all minted at the Tripolis mint. Here is a site listing all the types from Tripolis (there are not many). http://esty.ancients.info/Tripolis/ Carus. RIC 128. * in upper field, TR in lower field, XXI in exergue. 22mm. 12:00. 4.03 grams. A characteristic of Tripolis mint coins is poor artwork on the portraits compared to the other mints. This one illustrates that nicely.
For Tripoils some variations for RIC128: Who cares? I do. star in field without dot in the legend No star in field with the dot in legend No star in field and the dot is missing
