my regular pick up bank have $12.50 in customer coin, which had 6 1966 halves, all 6 in unc condition, very nice, lots of luster.
also one teller saves the foreign coin off of the coin machine for me. 7 foreign including 2 French Polynesia.

After $800 of halves, I found one 1964. Better than nothing. Any tips avoiding issues with purchasing and deposits?

    Regarding half dollars...
    • Find a bank with a no-fee counting machine.
    • Don't dump at source bank.
    • Don't use for purchases unless you want strange looks from cashiers.
If you can't find a bank w/ a no-fee machine, you could always use CoinStar with Amazon gift cards, etc., but that only goes so far. If you absolutely MUST wrap your leftovers, don't dump them all in the same bank; tellers HATE half dollars.\

    HTH.

Douugmeister has it about right. There are some variations on that theme.
read back in this thread you will find quite a lot of discussion along the way.
also check the the other threads in Coin Roll Hunting section. This has been well discussed.
and don't be afraid to spend some them. I put about $80 per week back into circulation. Its actually kinda fun. Tips, fast food, an extra couple of dollars when you by gas. Its easy and fun.

    Spend them!

    It drives the cashiers crazy.

I remember years ago picking up some Chinese food, paying in half dollars.

I looked back as I got to the door and saw the employees 'diving' into the change to share their 'booty'.

    fun.

But, my daughter hated it when I gave her lunch money of half dollars or Ike $'s.

I now can get bags from a local bank. Four quarter bags ($4000)
yielded ONE silver quarter and 95 bicentennials. One dime bag ($1000)---zilch. Two half bags ($2000)---nothing. Should have known about the halves, the vault teller said one person had dumped all of them.
The last six boxes of halves yielded two Bens, two 90% Kennedys and one 40%, and a half Balboa (Panama).
Nothing in the last box of nickels.

Box of nickels I got yesterday completed my set out of circulation with not one but two 38-s! It also had five war silver a dateless buffalo and a 39-s. 38-s number one would grade xf, and 38-s number two ms-63. The 39-s is vf-20 give or take a grade. Not a bad box. First box with a buffalo and silver and three key dates.

Went through about $70 in BWR/CWR halves - no silver, but a few curiosities here.

1990-S clad proof (in a brown customer roll, those ones with diamond shapes on the side that are usually full of other roll searcher rejects)

A very worn clad Kennedy. Date completely worn off, but P mint mark remains.

1973 that looks like somebody's failed plating attempt.

Great finds, what do you give them to get the tellers to hold them for you? I've tried donuts, muffins, etc but still can't get mine to hold any for me.
