I had the 2000 wide am looked at by a coin dealer. He said that it is definitely double die on the top of the Lincoln Memorial as well as the words E-pluribus and also on the words United States. He has never seen one like that before. He had no idea of what it might be worth because the double die. Anyone on here have a guess or maybe some information?
looks like MD to me and if that dealer thought it was a doubled die i'd have sold it to him on the spot...and continued to sell him MD coins every week till he wised up...
Sheila, don't let that dealer authenticate anything for you. Personally, I'd be leery about buying anything from him. Chris
It must be understood that "dealer" is not synonymous with "expert", and this can be particularly true when it comes to more specialized areas such as varieties.
Did you clean it? The surfaces look different than they did in you thread yesterday. Nice find! Here's the photo from your old thread.
Yes because you couldn't see double die or anything else and I needed to be able to see what was going on with the coin.
Yes, I knew that and that is why I am getting as much information as I possibly can from any good sources. Especially from you guys because you guys are very very good at what you do and thank you very much for all your help.
Ugh! Bad idea - now you should state that if you are going to sell which might cause people to not even bid. And if there really is any doubling then just MD. Hope the coin dealer didn't charge you for his "expertise" on this coin. Time to find a more knowledgeable coin dealer!
No charge. He just advised I have it looked at further to see what it may be worth, if anything. He wasn't sure he said because he has never seen that before.
