ASA-Accugrade Des moines IA early blue holder

Here is a new purchase for me and I like the holder and I collect these Ike dollars. This is a new type of holder for me to find. Accugrade has many small holders out there and on the reverse label will be 'Accugrade'/'Connecticut' or 'West'.
This is the first time I have seen the state as Iowa. I have read some of Alan Hager's book on silver dollars "The ACCUGRADE SYSTEM" and there is no mention of ever being in that state, although he mention California, New York.
I was wondering if anyone here has ever seen this holder?
Or know anything about it.
I have nine different type of holders for this company and I am always looking for one more. I'll post some of the different types as time goes by.

This grading system is Faud over graded by three grades or more no resell value here dealer 45 years I will not trade theses

 

For everything we might say about Accugrade, Alan is not a bad grader and his slabs are (with exceptions) not poorly graded, especially earlier ones.

 

Oh try to sell them see what you get 20 cents on Alan what joke biggest cook around

 

IIRC Conder said that Iowa was one of the franchise operations (I think CA was also).

You out bid me on all but one of them... this will be my 2nd Iowa. #1 is dot matrix label Peace $... these look to be laser printed labels.

 

But some folks like to collect 'em.........

Grade the coin, not the slab. Not that I'd sell a slabbed ACG coin.

 

Every list of grading services I have seen put Accugrade in the basement.

 

Basement or not. I like what I like and collect that. I don't have many but to have a few for my collection is ok with me.

 

I'm just going based on the few dozen ACG slabs I've seen. It's variable, though, because as has been mentioned in this thread, he franchised. Chances are the real dogs came from the franchisees.

Strange grade! Would this one be two and a half points over graded?
Really this is the first slab I have ever seen with a extra half point to the grade.

 

I don't want to sound like a fan - I'm not - but one thing I rather liked about these was the "Commercial Grade" (lowercase "c" after the grade) on some of his slabs. I think he invented market grading.

 

Yes he did - and if you read his book(s) he did pop reports long beforeeveryone else.

 

The OP coin is an ACG 8. Des Moines was a "branch office" that opened in 1986. It did not operate long and produced two varieties of holder, this one and an earlier variety (ACG 7) that used a dot matrix printer and did not have the registered symbol on the back label.

ACG did have either one or two branch offices in California, one in San Francisco and one in Long Beach. i don't know if these were two different offices or if it was the same office and it changed locations. There is also a variety of AGC Slab that just says Accugrade WEST and one that says Accugrade CALIFORNIA. I don't know which office produced those or if it was a completely different office.

None of the branch offices remained in business for long, probably no later than 1988.

And say what you will, Alan Hagar was definitely an innovator in the industry at the time. He pioneered slabbing, photoslabs, commercial grading, decimal point grades (the precursor to todays + grade), pop reports and possibly some other things.
