I was looking at the shape of the bust and unsure if it was pointed I thought maybe not but do see what appears to be an "L" on the ribbon? Is this an "L"?

" The "L" is James Longacre's initial on the ribbon at the back of Liberty's neck. Only in 1864, only on the pointed bust variety and only in bronze. 1864 was the transitional year from copper-nickel to bronze cents."

This might mislead some, as the "L" occurs on all of the IHC in same place in the following years, only there it is standard.

That is what I heard too. All the coins after 1864 are "L" coins with pointed bust. There are other differences like the shape of the leaf and where the second curl is pointing too. Some "pointy" busts look rounded as you can see in the 4th coin. I will have to take a look at it. It is rounded but not as rounded as the 1862 or other blatantly rounded 1864 coins I encountered. Noticed the 1862 has a round last leaf bottom but the 3rd coin does not. The 1862 has a second curl that points to the 2. The coin in question doesn't appear to be an L but I will inspect it when it gets here.

Compare your coin to this one, this is the "with L" type. (click photos to enlarge)
