From the same dealer I picked up the 1833 H-10 I found this one. A bargain at $20! Even more so I believe after I got it home to scope it out. Now there are two known varieties of the 1849 H-10. both are over dates. One is a Valentine #1 9/8 the other is an Valentine 2 and also an 9/8 variety.
Many have been lead to believe that that these are an 9 over an inverted 6, some believe it to be an 9 over an inverted 9.
I believe the coin pictured to be an FS-H-10 -1849-302 see my images.
Now the half dime is an Valentine #2 is the variety. The diagnostics are as follows for the V-2 Obv. Numbers rather slender, open date.tha'ts not high. The 9 shows a defect in its opening.
Rev. Medium lettering, die crack at N of United,D of Dime, H of Half T of states and bow of wreath.
Notice that all of the following fall into line.
Plus look inside the loop of the 9 high lighted in red.
Now what I don't see is the evidence of the underlying 8 to the south east of the 9 on the field below. My scope does shoe me bits and pieces of what I believe to be parts of an 8 that has been polished off,or worn due to age of this coin.
However what sells me on this being the variety is the shape of the raised medal inside the 9's loop. It's located and matches the the same as the image in the CPG 4th ed. Vol.ll page 9. I would grade this coin as an Vf. coin showing wear on its high spots but still plenty of meat on the bone.If this is by chance the Variety it's one of the Seated Liberty collectors favorites variety. 1849 H-10 SLHD.jpg 1849 SLHD 2 rev.-crop.jpg 1849 H10 49 date.jpg 1849 H10 49 date.jpg

One more find yesterday was this 1858 H-10 SL. It's in an NGC slab graded Au.55 Has slight reverse rotation. 1858 H 10 V2.jpg

You know how fishermen always talk about the one that got away? I had offered to me an 1865 Nickel three cent piece that I should of jumped on. I let another friend buy it as it was at the end of the show and I didn't want to spend any more.
This piece was an MS-63-65 raw coin. that had some of the best clashes I've even seen. It was clashed both Obv. & Rev. with the roman numerals III in her neck and beside it as well as her full profile of her face on the reverse next to the Roman numerals.
It was also a RPD with an URS of 4! That's 5-8 known pieces! :(

As a collector that is limited on the funds to back a hobby that is full of expensive coins, I try to find the best deals when searching for coins. I have been very fortunate in making friends on CT that have assisted and have offered trades for some coins. I was on GreatCollection the other day and found a coin that is part of the key dates in the Lincoln collection. Now I know that this coin comes with the details issue, however it is a nice coin and it will be cracked out to fit in my Dansco 8100 album so it won’t hurt my feeling any. These are GreatCollection images of a soon to be my very own 1924-D

I picked up this coin for a winning bid of $15.00+$5.00 Buyers fee and $3 shipping so I think I did alright.

  16. I know a lot of people dislike Barbers, but this coin is a tough one in mid grades. I am pretty dang happy to add this one.
