I had to sell a 1921 peace dollar so I listed it on ebay. It sold for 157$. Now the buyer won't pay. Says he can tell it's been cleaned making it worth only 14 bucks. Also says if I report it to ebay we will just return the coin and leave negative feedback. What can I do?
Don't ship and cancel the sale... if already shipped have the buyer return it and if you get a Neg. contact ebay and provide a copy of the threat
That's what I told him numismat. He said any cleaned coin is only worth spot so he is giving me a deal. Lol
Report him, he bought the item and should have know it's been cleaned by looking at the photos. Once you file a claim I don't think anyone can leave feedback once a claim is opened.
Sounds like you shipped the coin. Tell him to return it and his payment will be refunded. Do not make any threats. Keep it professional. If he leaves negative feedback, provide evidence of his so called "giving you a deal". Block him as a future buyer. You could also contact Ebay and tell them what's going on and ask their opinion but then, you'd need to follow what they tell you. Best wishes.
I haven't shipped yet he refuses to pay the winning amount. Said he he only pay the 14 it is worth. Is it worth reporting to ebay or should I just cancel the sale?
Then he is either trying to scam you or doesn't know jack about coins. Either way, someone to block from your future auctions.
CALL EBAY!!! I wish I were positive, but once you file against him, I do believe his feedback is blocked. I am positive threatening to hold feedback hosage is against their rules.
Agreed with all the previous posters. Do not ship the item. Report the buyer, block him from future auctions, and do 2nd chance offer. If he sent you a message threatening negative feedback unless you sold him the coin for $14, you 100% have nothing to fear as far as negative feedback is concerned. Threatening to use the feedback system like that is 100% against the rules.
I would contact eBay right off the bat and explain to them what is going on so the history of the transaction is noted. Tell them that the buyer bid on the coin now does not want to pay. Wait and let eBay open a case against them for non-pay. If they don't pay so be it, they will be dinged because of it then place the coin back up for auction as second chance, you will not be charged twice for the listing fee. If they do pay, ship it, allow them to contact eBay to say they are going to send the coin back. They will probably say something along the line as "item not as described". If they say anything about the coin "being cleaned", that makes them look foolish. Let them send it back, let them send feedback to you, if they do. If it is positive that is ok, then you can go to the feedback area for them, and comment letting buyers know that this person 'bids on items then refuses to pay' or "does not know anything about coins", something along this line. If it is negative you can contact eBay again let them know that there is a history of this transaction, that you have been "trying to work with the seller" and "done everything I could". Tell them you want the negative removed because the "buyer did not want to work with me". Then block them. But most important, if they leave that feedback make sure you comment too and rip them in carefully used words.
If you want, you can file an unpaid item against him. He can then choose to pay, wait until he receives it, then file a claim against you, get a full refund, and leave you a negative. I believe ebay only blocks him from leaving feedback if he does NOT pay after you file unpaid item against him. However, since he has threatened you with a negative, you SHOULD be able to get one removed, as this is illegal for him to do. Personally, I would just agree to cancel the sale and move on. Block him no matter what.
If you haven't shipped, he hasn't seen the coin in hand. So he decided it was cleaned based on your images. And then bid $157 on it. Screw him.
