Ok so I have this follis of Maximianus and have been trying to figure out how to clean it. I thought I had a sure-fire way with the Verdi-Care I have, since I previously used some on a Constantius I that had a similar encrustation and most of it literally slid off within a day. In that instance though, that Verdi-Care was from a different bottle that I hadn't used for two years, so I'm guessing within that time it became more potent? I am not a chemist so I wouldn't know (I almost failed the only Chem class I've taken, @Ancientnoob will not be pleased ). The bottle I'm using I bought a couple of weeks ago, but I had my coin in some of the liquid for a week and no progress. So anyways any advice/suggestions/help in removing the green encrustation off? It has a few patches of silvering remaining as well so I want to try to preserve those at the same time if possible. But if the silvering needs to go in order to get the green stuff off I'm willing to make that sacrifice. Thanks all.
Frankly I would leave it. It looks like normal/hard green patina that is usually desirable. I think if you remove it, your gonna be left with pits and uneven patina like that the reverse looks like, which I think is uglier.
