I just found this. Do you think it is coated maybe? It has a mirror finish and is incredibly proof like. But it has a D instead of S. Did they make proofs in Denver then? Just never seen one.

    It weighs 11.26 g

I believe your suspicions are correct. Plated.

Indeed - Fields are not mirror smooth at all.

No, and there is more to identifying a proof than simply being shiny. Off the top of my head none stick out, but I'm sure a forum search would turn up a few informative threads for you.

Business strike. The only proof coin made by Denver was a $10 Olympic gold piece back in 1984......

Just so I know and won't wonder, why does the rim still have the copper showing if it's plated? 20151203_184238.jpg

So when I see mirror finish, they don't mean highly reflective? It means it's as smooth as a mirror?

Yes (Although I think they did mint some matte proofs, but thst's a different story)
Note the fields of an actual proof half:

Good question - maybe just highly polished?

After looking around, found out that the nickle outer layer of the coin can be polished to a high sheen - kinda like yours.

Not a proof. Do you have any photos that were not taken at an angle, that make it easier to determine what caused it.

My guess is that it was plated.
