Books I personally think this was just a game...I'll bet dollars to donuts he knew exactly what he had and deiced to use this forum to get his kicks, and fanned the flames even more by referencing that Morgan error thread counting on no one to run it down. While its certainly immature to do this and discredits his professionalism, I believe its a good practice for myself to weed out the BS and the BSers. This is the third such post were a troll has done this exact same thing and even tried to reference previous threads as proof that we don't know what we're talking about. I all three cases I've asked for links to the referenced threads, this has been the only discussion were the thread actually existed...in the other two cases as soon as I asked for that previous thread the OP goes dark...go figure. Oh well to each his own.
I didn't say nor imply otherwise. Remember, I'm not the one who said that we deserve everything he called us, and took the necessary five minutes to dig up the old thread. It seemed pretty clear early on that hip boots were necessary to navigate this thread...
No, I was that guy, Books. I said it because the OP was treated with typical Coin Talk disrespect from the very first post. Although there are some pretty committed numismatists around here, there's also a certain plurality of bullies and cynics who don't appear interested in coins at all, really. It bothers me not at all personally, but those people are driving new collectors away from the hobby and that cannot be tolerated.
Don't get me wrong... it wasn't in any way intended as a jab towards you, and in fact, I fully agreed with your sentiment when initially posted. Only later did it, unfortunately, become clear that the lack of respect was a two-way street. As for the overall lack of respect all too often afforded new members, you're certainly right. Short of instituting a totalitarian regime however, it's not likely to stop without other members being willing to ball BS when they see it.
Omg-- and to think, should I join, do I know enough? Maybe I should read more.. I know if it walks like a duck, it aint an error--IMO-
