YOU NEED TO LET THIS GO. CONTINUING IN THIS KIND OF BEHAVIOR BENEFITS NO ONE YOU KNOW THIS I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO BE THE ONE TELLING YOU. NOW, PLEASE FOR THE SAKE OF THIS FORUM AND ITS REPUTATION WE ALL NEED TO BEHAVE IN A PROPER MANNER. EVERYONE NEEDS TO BE ABLE TO CIVILIZE OR ELSE PEOPLE FROM THE OTHER FORUMS WILL LAUGH AT US THIS MUST NEVER HAPPEN. BOOKSB4COINS, IT'S TIME TO STOP THE PARADE ITS GONE LONG ENOUGH LET IT GO WILL YA?
Apparently, this guy must be a foreign born, English is his 2nd language, because he THINKS making LONG comments in English as he might speak in a native Chinese, is the way to get readers to AGREE with his nonsense. In other words, he typed a PARAGRAPH worth of dribble to to explain to you that the caps lock is NOT on, and that his intent was to SCREAM at you/us.
I think his even greater problem is that he knows FAR LESS than he THINKS he does about how DDOs are created in the DIE manufacturing process as opposed to the Machine Striking Coin Press process which occasionally produces Strike Doubled specimens that look like possible DDOs, but are in Fact NO better than normal strikes. I took a full page photo of my CherryPickers Guide of the ONLY page dedicated to the ONLY Accepted variety of a 1969S DDO, posted it to one of my replies in this thread and STILL he argues that HE must have MIRACULOUSLY cherry picked two examples of Type 001 DDO. A few forum members have posted picts of the REAL 1969S DDO but he can't be persuaded the HE could be WRONG.
So I've asked you how many times to drop the nonsense, only to be ignored, yet now this too is all my fault? The only one who is being laughed at is you, sir, and the only one making a mockery of the forum is you. The only one posting misleading nonsense is you. Again and again and again it's this or it's that... you can blather on about your new camera, all while using your old as an excuse, yet steadfastly refuse to post the repeatedly requested photos. Over and over and over again you announce your expertise all while dismissing the sincere and educated contributions of other members, yet not once have you reasonably even tried to discuss the issue at hand. Is this proper behavior for a discussion forum? Is it really me or any of the other guys who should rightfully shoulder the blame here? Should we all keep to ourselves and leave this man-child free to inject his idiocy into every other thread? Your return here wasn't to contribute or share, but as earlier linked, was to do nothing more than insult the membership and mislead a newcomer. I personally couldn't care less if you wish to spend all day every day shacked up in your room, drooling over your little preciouses, dreaming of the, ahem, small fortune within your hands, and magically discovering new examples in every other handful of coins pulled from your pockets; I simply don't care, but don't come here and expect to mislead anyone and not be challenged on it.
IF he WANTS to PROVE to himself or this forum that he is RIGHT, then he NEEDS to spend only about $40 to ship the coins he wishes are Type 001 DDOs to ANY grading company, and wait to get to slabbed coin back with the official confirmation of the variety he has found. $40 for 1 coin's grading includes Certified Mail fees from his home to the grader's address, with Postal insurance for maybe $1,000. To get a Type 1 Graded example shipped back to him, would cost far more, as even the EF-40 lists (I believe In graded slabs) for $65 THOUSAND in the 2009 CherryPIckers Guide and $150 THOUSAND for an MS-65 graded example. Spending maybe $100 to get one of his TWO specimens graded would be worth the expense to find out if you have VERIFIABLY just won the lottery by hunting change or rolls. But, conversely, if his coin is NOT the Type 001 he DREAMS he's holding, then that same $100 would be spent on a $1 common Strike Doubled 1969S cent.
I hesitate to say anything as the last thing I want to do is give this fellow any more ammunition, but this isn't true. As I'm sure you know, cherrypickers, while indeed fine books, are essentially a listing of only more significant and/or valuable varieties and not a definitive reference listing all known or accepted; a popularity contest if you will. With that said, there is at least one other, but the point is moot as this, ahem, gentleman claims not to have numerous examples of a 69-S DDO, but of THE 69-S DDO. http://doubleddie.com/314201.html
First off please shut off the cap lock. all this screaming is making my eyes "ring". I find it ironic that you are lecturing Books on civil behavior while screaming your fingers off. The truth of the matter is that several people have indeed given you the data, proof, or whatever you are demanding but you refuse to accept it. these coins are nothing but machine doubled coins and worth 1 cent each. If you want my credentials, I'm the guy that discovered the 1982 DDO-001 in 2007. If you would like to read more about that look here http://www.numismaticnews.net/article/zinc_1982_cent_host_to_new_doubled_die. I have spent many years researching errors and varieties, do I know it all? no but I know enough to recognise MD.
On another positive note, you are absolutely correct! There are literally thousands of Doubled Die coins out there but only a few are of enough significance to catch peoples eyes. Some are extremely minor but are true doubled dies.
No, you're wrong AGAIN (in CAPS so you get it)... the dumbest idea was trying to help someone who doesn't even want to be helped.
The participants of this thread have already been warned once by another mod to stop with the name calling. This is the second warning to stop this hissy-fit and play nice. If you post , assume it may be questioned. If you don't like the answers you get, put it aside. Stop the Capital letters. It is boring and hard to read. And yes it is easy to tell whether it is DDO or MDD, and this thread should not have taken 6 pages. Thanks Jim
This Wexler's link is listing the Type 1-O-I 1969S DDO, exactly as CherryPickers does, with a Type 2-O-I. My statement was made in regards to Only the coin in the OP, the 1969S DDO, as CherryPicker's Guide 2009 offered, in which was included a secondary item they call as Not a DD. The 2 picts they added to the statement looks identical to the blurry picts the OP posted. I'd hoped his seeing that disclaimer would help convince him that he was dreaming of pie in the sky. The Type 2-O-I in Wextler's certainly does not prove his holding match a 2nd DDO variety.
My only intent was to point out, in all fairness, that there is more than one 69-S DDO, and in no way was it meant to dispute or discredit anything you said. In fact, I thought that adding the CP listing was a fine idea as it went straight to the heart of the OP's repeated request for proof, but apparently and as with everything else in his threads, your effort were for not. I also thought I had made it very clear that in no way was I attempting to say the OP's coin is of the other (Wexler linked) variety, but perhaps not.
Funny, I was asked to join in the posting replies to the forum here at cointalk. I'd think that the more pages of commentary, the better. I keep getting your email blasts about recent replies to read and reply to. Maybe you'd prefer less commentary?
I don't know what you are referring to as "email blasts"? Certainly not from me. " Commentary", comments on the subject of the thread ( coin) is one thing and welcomed, but the attacking, belittling, and trying to be a pretend deity of knowledge beyond all others is not. Members should recognize the difference, Do not allowed yourselves to be bullied or trolled. report the posts, and refrain from trying to respond until such are dealt with by the mods.
Okay... now please, you do the same. Below are cropped photos of both your coin and the genuine variety (both 1958). This, sir, even if you're somehow able to dismiss all that has come before it, should prove it once and for all.
