30th anniversary for american eagle series on 2016.

Near as I can tell, a "Matt Proof" would be a coin with a "matt" surface and it would receive multiple strikes to bring up the relief.

I could be wrong but literally all the silver eagles except the proof finish coins, receive exactly this.

BTW, can anybody "REALLY" tell the difference between the bullion coin and the burnished coins simply by looking at the obverse?

ICG??? I wonder how a PR70 or MS70 graded by ICG might grade by PCGS... Sorry, not knocking it, although maybe I am. Why??? Well, because I had the infamous 2006 set of ICG 70s, and at the time I was what I now call "numb". I took them over here to PCGS in Irvine to see if they might qualify for a PCGS "70". Sadly, they showed me where the coins failed the test, and therefore left them in their ICG slabs, and sold them. I wonder how many other ICG "70"s are out there?

 

I think those boxes are the reason the coins are so expensive....cuz........if I am correct here, and I'm going out on a limb...there is $17.34 of silver there, right? So, the rest is the box and papers? I don't understand. Are these now considered numismatic coins????

 

I really like this bullion series. The Proof ASE's look like jewelry. One word of caution, if you're going to buy them graded PF/MS 70, stick to PCGS or NGC. The other TPG's "perfect" coins are discounted in the marketplace and will be viewed as overgraded. If you don't care about 70's, buy 69's in either of the top 2.

I'm hoping they make a High Relief Reverse Proof Silver Eagle I believe it would be the Hottest coin ever , just needs to be a 5 or 6 coin set at least, 30 years is a long time,if they change it needs to be a hot! set, I just want a High Relief silver eagle ! lol 2oz so it will be the same diameter as the other eagle's & definitely a WestPoint mint mark has to be too kool for school !

 

From what I've heard the bullion is staying the same but they are waiting for a transportation bill to pass that may change proofs to having a non-reeded edge with lettering. As for special 2016 sets, strikes and finishes I haven't heard a thing

 

The bill that would change the reeded edges for 2016 passed the House but is stuck in committee in the Senate.

 

I think there are much more important things to deal with than our minuscule coin machinations......our wills and desires pale with what decisions lay before congress......hopeful though.

 

Probably more to do with the summer recess. The bill appears to have bipartisan support since it would save money in manufacturing bullion coins, or so the Mint says.

 

No more of the edge lettering please! Their so called edge lettering is horrible. The worst part of it is having the year/mintmark on the side.
The SAC/Presidential dollars just don't seem right. It looks like like they forgot to put the date on the coin. First thing you do with a coin is look at the date and mintmark, and with it on the edge, its difficult if not impossible to see it. And once in an album, you really cant see them. BIG mistake on the mints part if you ask me.

True, but they don't want to have to deal with those things, they are difficult, controversial, and have political consequences. They would much rather kick them down the road for a later time and deal with minutia instead. Why do you think nothing of importance ever gets done on time. BY LAW the Congress has to pass a budget every year by Sept 30th. They have only actually passed two budgets in something like the past 30 years and neither of those was on time. The rest of the time we have operated on "continuing resolutions". The 2016 budget was due Sept 30th 2015, it is now Dec 1st and we are under a continuing resolution that was passed a couple weeks ago and which will expire next week. Sometime around the 7th they will pass another resolution that will last till some time in January. Then when they come back from their Christmas, they will start working on another one.

In the meantime they will pass all kinds of resolutions, national this or that days, hold hearings, anything except get their actual work done. (I believe under the Constitution the only bills the Congress actually HAS to pass each year are the Budget and the 13 appropriations bills. Anything else they do is surplus. They've done lots of surplus, aren't passing budgets, and spend 14 to 16 months rolling the 13 appropriations bills into one giant omnibus spending bill. Then start over.)

For the 30th anniversary they should do a gold version of the American Silver Eagle design. Forget all the finishes and special this and that. There's been so many released in the last few years, I quit collecting them pretty much altogether.

 

Commemorate the SILVER eagle by making it in gold? And if you were going to do it in gold, wouldn't the fiftieth (golden) anniversary make more sense?

 

I'd like to see a fractional set offering for the year like they did with the gold buffalo's in 2008.

 

Agree with those who believe the edge lettering will look horrible. We're basically going to get a silver eagle with the edge of the silver medals that come in the coin and chronicles sets except lettered...blah.
