As a kid with a paper route back in the early 60's. (I was 10 or 11. Yes, kids had paper routes at that age back then) I would come home with every pocket full of change, my pants would be falling down. In 62 or 63, my grandfather sat me down and gave me a short history lessen on US coins. He explained silver coins would no longer be made after 64 and suggested I "keep" what I could.......I did. That's when the coin collecting thing hit me. When the Kennedy half's first came out in 64, I remember saving my penny's (and yes, they were probably wheat penny's, I don't remember), taking 50 to the bank and asking the teller: Do you have a Kennedy Half Dollar I could have for these 50 penny's please?....most of the time she did. That's how I first started filling my Kennedy books. If she didn't, I would ask for dimes, quarters or Franklin half's back then.
I got started in 2011. Became interested after seeing a Peace dollar. Collected a few of them and some Franklins and a bit of this and that. Then I saw my first military trade token and that launched a huge passion of mine. I have lots of them now and the easy ones have been captured. Now I'm into ancients in a big way.
I started collecting Lincolns from change in about 1970 - got the Whitman 1940 + folder. I still have it, even though my interest in coin collecting was on and off over the years. I actually did complete it, fairly recently in fact .
