Is that CNG 45 by chance? I actually just recently purchased a bronze from Andrew McCabe that RBW bought from the Goodman collection at CNG 45, interestingly enough. I've got my own copy of the catalog but it would be interesting to see RBW's notes on that lot.

Yes, it is. What lot was it in in CNG 45?

I've got quite a few of RBW's modern catalogues from CNG and NAC, but CNG 45 is a time capsule of goodies. I've got his bid sheet, invoices, a consignment sheet, correspondence with the ANS...it was a big sale and he bought 107 coins from it.

The one I just purchased was lot 1333, Cr. 142/5 "Bull and MD" Sextans. I knew he bought several from that auction but 107 coins is insane, that's bigger than my whole collection!

That coin appears to be one of a large group of unsolds. There is correspondence between the ANS and RBW where I believe he was buying coins for the ANS in that auction as well as organizing some acquisitions from the unsolds for the ANS and himself. That coin is marked ANS in his handwriting in the catalogue as well as the unsolds list. I would assume that coin was going to the ANS' collection but perhaps Andrew McCabe would know.

That is very interesting. McCabe said he bought it from RBW but wasn't sure where RBW bought it. I bet RBW bought it from Goodman later on. I've got at least one other that was purchased directly from Goodman shortly after CNG 45.
