Here's mine, a fully-silvered Antoninianus. Milan, AD 268 2.84 g, 21.1 mm IMP C POSTVMVS PF AVG Radiate draped bust, r. SALVS AVG Aesculapius standing facing, head l., holding snake-entwined staff; globe at feet, r.; P in exergue.
Posthumus CE 260-269 antoninianus, 22 mm, 3.0 gm struck CE 263 in Cologne Obv: IMP C POSTVMVS P F AVG, radiate, draped, and cuirassed bust right Rev: PROVIDENTIA AVG, Providentia standing left, leaning on a column, holding a scepter in her right hand and a cornucopiae in her left; at her feet to left, globe Ref: RIC VII 81, Cologne; AGK (corr.) 70. Cunetio -. Elmer 334. Gilljam -. From an Obolos listing of a similar coin: "This type is very rare. The fact that it is not listed in Hans Gilljam’s Seltene Antoniniani des Postumus indicates that specimens were not in any of the hoards he examined (i.e. Cunetio, Douvres, Etaples, Evreux and those in CHRB II, containing in total no less than 33,332 antoniniani of Postumus." It was a mixed lot find
A better reverse type, why I got it and under $40 too. Postumus (260 - 269 A.D.) AR Antoninianus O: IMP C POSTVMVS P F AVG, Radiate, draped, and cuirassed bust right. Postumus BI Antoninianus, Lyons, 260-269 AD, 2.4g, 22.0mm OBV: IMP C POSTVMVS P F AVG, Radiate, draped & cuirassed bust right. REV: HERC PACIFERO, Hercules standing right, holding olive branch & club. REF: RIC V-II 67, RSC 101, Sear5 10946
Postumus's mint attributions by sellers are often all over the place, but those coins in his name from Milan were struck under Aureolus and typically distinguishable by bust style. Yours should be from the Trier (Treveri) mint. I don't have one of these Salus types yet and need one! My favorite: POSTUMUS (260 - 269 AD, Gallic Empire) Double Sestertius 9.85g, 27mm Atelier II, 261 - 263 AD, RIC 166, Sear 11069, BASTIEN 152 (15 ex., same dies as 152g) O: IMP C M CASS LAT POSTVMVS P F AVG, radiate, draped and cuirassed bust right. R: VICTORIAE AVG, two Victories standing face to face, attaching A shield to A palm tree, captives seated left and right below, S C in ex.
I open myself to being called a shallow fellow but I collect Postumus because he was such a fine looking fellow. I can't pick one as best so I'll show what I consider a nice silver antoninianus with IOVI STATORI reverse and the double sestertius with galley reverse overstruck on a sestertius of Antoninus Pius. I'm uncertain on what reverse the Pius had.
My Postumus is one of my favourite coins in my collection. It has this great blue tone around the radiate crown and some of the letters.
Atta-boy, Manitoba (gorgeous coin) ... => Whizb4ng, do you dudes have any snow down south in Winnipeg?
Fantastic youthful portrait on this coin-- very different from the usual. Excellent score, Whiz! Have you picked up anything new lately? We don't see you around here much these days .
Yeah, we got a bunch of snow down our way but the temperature has been positive the past couple of days and it has been melting. About an inch has stuck around though. Good snowball weather. Once again everyone has forgotten how to drive in winter conditions. Lots of accidents around the city. I haven't bought anything at all this year. My girlfriend started law school so my funds are severely limited since we moved to one income. Besides that any extra money has had to go to new clothes! Took it upon myself to get healthier and have dropped ~50 pounds. I am still here I swear!
