From what I understand this is a legal issue here. The law does not allow for silver coins...only gold. Laws would have to be changed....I'm sure you know how well that would go
Well since Congress can't agree on anything else, maybe the solons could fool everyone and agree with this modest proposal. Yeah, fat chance. No response needed.
My only issue with them is I would've favored lesser gold content to make them a little thicker and stronger. I'm surprised they're able to make them for how thin they'll likely be.
I actually don't disagree with that logic @john59 I think they should make circulating clad versions of them. It would stimulate interest in the hobby for sure.
Yeah, too bad our laws prevent it. Or maybe it's not too bad; I'm not sure my heart would be able to take the strain if I suddenly started finding BU Mercs and SLQs in my change...
I'm on the fence on this one. I collect both SLQ's and WLH's. Either way it will be the flippers in the beginning. I lost my desire to collect current offerings with the way the Reverse Gold Buffalo coin was handled a few years back. Paying people to stand in line, flying in coins to get ANA lable, etc wrecked the idea for me. I have not purchased any coin dated after 1933 since that coin came out.
But that's the beauty of it. You can keep calling the radio sta.... I mean, the US Mint and place your order before some other flipper gets them. Then you have your set straight from them and can avoid the fray. lol Nah, I can see how the game has become somewhat unattractive to some.
Go look at Ebay and the offerings for the 2015 $100 gold coin. I suspect quite a few flippers got burned considering the price crash of recent over there. Maybe they'll be more reluctant to try to hoard in 2016. Now, if we can figure out a way to boil the TV flippers alive in their own juices...
"....... it appears that the U.S. Mint is leaning heavily toward business strikes only, meaning no proof or uncirculated versions." Isn't that an oxymoron? Does that mean that we won't be able to purchase this coin directly from the mint and only from authorized sellers? If so, this is gonna stink.
