I found a 1986-D Lincoln cent with a die break error. Please refer to the attached images. Is this error of any value?

    Thank you.

Gouged into coin or raised area?

Looks a lot like a plating problem/bubble. Common on these "Zincolns".

This. The copper lamination breaks loose of the zinc and can bubble up like you see here. It's a large bubble as they go, and in a prominent location, but not at all uncommon in Zlincolns and not an added-value feature.

Not my words but from an article read on the internet!

" Futhermore bubbled plating can also be enlongated which looks like something more rare than bubbled plating. It's important to realize that even though plating issues are technically mint errors they're not rare enough or have enough interest from collectors to be worth a premium."

If its a gas bubble should be able to pop .
Cause I know electroplating can causes issues to on planchets ( Shield )

I hope the coin is not valuable, as was stated above, because I tested your speculation. Although the raised area does not "pop" when poked with a pin, it does dent very easily.

Now here an electroplating issue on a planchet and no pin will pop it, or move the area of question .. A012 - 20140429_164920 (2).jpg
