I have a coin with a spot of bronze disease. I think it's stabilized, or maybe I just hope it's stabilized. At any rate, I'm very open to the idea that it's stabilized. If it has stabilized, is it safe to try to remove it, or does that reactivate the BD and risk turning the coin into a toxic waste dump? Thanks in advance!
Thanks Kentucky! It really is just a spot so whether it's a bright green spot or a pit-spot is all the same to me. I once had a coin where I tried to scrub off the BD with a toothbrush. Turns out the previous owner had waxed the coin (my first and I think only waxed coin so far) and within days the thing was completely covered in fuzz. This caused me more than a week of anxiety and cleaning until I finally just decided to give in to the BD. I still have it, but you wouldn't know it's a coin to look at it.
1. Learn the difference between BD and green mineral deposits. 2. If your coin has BD keep it isolated from other coins and discard flips used. 3. Treat the BD using verdi-care. 4. NEVER consider a BD coin "cured". It may be in remission but it can recur over time. Check the coin regularly.
