I've got this 1972 penny that has my mind boggled. I hope my pic does it justice. I think it might be a DDO but thats not the reason for my post. Could it be a very different doubled eye & ear than usual? I think this doubling is further away than what we usually see. Do you see what I'm seeing? Lastly, there are letters scattered everywhere randomly. I'm fine calling most of them "damage" but others simply cannot be. They are deep in the metal, lingering in the background, obverse and reverse. It looks like this penny was made from recycled coins! What happened to this coin?
Wow It's not Doubled anywhere at all. And it's a normal 43 year old circulated Cent with wear and tear marks.
Just a plain ordinary penny (cent) that looks like it went through a war. It's pretty banged up from circulation. Not even close to a DD. To answer your question, "What happened to this coin?", Paddy said it before me, 43 years of circulation, caused what you see. Spend it!
No worries. I know more than you've obviously assumed. I think it's a cool coin. I'll use less words next time.
Teachmind? Idk who u are talking about. U guys really know how to welcome someone new. Im on here to learn, so if you havent anything nice to say to me please, say nothing at all. Thank you.
It's a little beat to say for sure, at least with the provided photos, but it does appear to my eyes to display characteristics of the common master doubling... http://www.lincolncentforum.com/1972-master-die-doubling/ Now, I mention this only due to the similarities between the two, and because it is something the OP should be aware of. They're certainly not the same, but can and have been confusing for newer collectors, so perhaps they'll find it interesting.
Teachmind was a now departed, short-time member who, due to his off-the-wall antics, managed to get under the skin on many. Unfortunately, a few here either think it's funny to compare other new members to him, or conveniently forget what it was like before they knew everything there is to possibly know (and yes... I'm being sarcastic), and let the jokes fly a tad too soon because of it. In their defense though, every now and then we do get new people who insist, against all logic and common sense, that their roadrash will soon turn into a new Ferrari or beach house, but does not excuse the improper treatment of a sincere new member wishing to learn. None of these guys mean you any harm though; they're just screwing around. My apologies if you've been made to feel less than welcome.... if someone gets on your nerves, just slyly tell them what they can go do to themselves.
It's just that she seems to be saying the same thing teachmind would say: "Lastly, there are letters scattered everywhere randomly."
I thought teachmind right away as I was reading her post too but give her and others a chance first guys before sounding off the attack. We will know teachmind after a few posts if he gets back on here with another name and ip. It's not like he can change lol.
I understand, but we need to remember that there's a difference between someone like Teachmind, who should've known better, and a newer collector who doesn't. Trust me... I've no problem with dishing when deserved, but only when it's deserved.
Is she a new collector? Another quote: "No worries. I know more than you've obviously assumed. I think it's a cool coin. I'll use less words next time."
Fair enough.... but if I told you I could fly, would you simply believe me, or would you place more weight into evidence that contradicts said claim?
Could you point to the 'scattered letters everywhere"? I don't see anything [I'm trying to be nice, and for those who know me, that ain't easy. ]
This person isn't Teachmind neither am I... I can see the lot of you fear this man to no end. He must be a person of great caliber.. I was once thought of this person you lot's fear so much you were right to be afraid because you are beneath. Today I bring the Vultures a token of gift... The GEM infects "YOU" like Kryptonite does Superman doesn't it? Now envy for life...
