Well wouldn't you know it...the U.S. Mint caught on to the feeding frenzy of these coins and all their doubled dies. They are now offering them again at $111.95 per bag of 100. Edit-currently sold out but...???
That seems like a stiff price to me. For one thing, there have been so many of the doubled dies found that the price should probably fall if any more are found. On the other hand, it wouldn't surprise me if there were none at all. Does anyone remember what happened with late-in-the-year orders of the Wisconsin SQ's (high and low leaf) and the 2008-W SAE's (reverse of '07)? Chris
It is a stiff price. The ddr 004 are selling raw for around 13 bucks. So with free shipping and fees, you need to find and sell at least 15 ddr 004 per bag to break even. To make money grading, you need at least a MS 66.
When the news broke about the high and low leaf varieties, people started ordering bags & rolls from the Mint hoping to cash in on the discovery. Unfortunately, the dies which produced these errors were no longer in service, and the extra leaf varieties were no longer available from the Mint. It was a similar situation for the '08W SAE. When the Mint realized that they were using the wrong reverse die, they pulled them from service. Chris
^ Not worth it, probably the identical scenario if available again. They don't happen to have the good time stamped boxes laying around.
