I have been fortunate in my life to have been to many of the far east Asian countries many many times on business travels. I took some oppotunities to see many of the ancient sites, and developed an appreciation for the Eastern histories and cultures. I agree, as a Westerner I never received much education on Eastern culture. When I went, I was amazed.
Oh there is something for everyone. Cant forget South East Asia. Mon Culture, Kingdom of Harikela, States of Pyu, Funan and the Empire of Sailendra.
Here is an assortment of coins of India. (I have more that I did not have at the time I made this)...yes there is that many Indian coins...
Went back into an earlier thread and looked at yours, @Ancientnoob , and @Loong Siew Buddha coins... You all's postings inspired my search and destroy mission.
I am definitely a Roman coin collector but I do have a few coins from other regions. I definitely have Roman Imperial by far, a few Roman Provincials, not many Greeks at all, yet. I have a gallery at FORVM Ancient Coins that has regions and the Roman timeline separated into categories. Anyone is more than welcome to look around if interested. http://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/index.php?cat=31399&page=1 Zeugitana, Carthage. Circa 300-264 BC. @Alegandron ... Aha!!! Found it!! Excellent!! Congrats on that great find! I am recently exploring more South East Asian coins now as an extended theme.. recently found a few interesting acquisitions.. will be posting in due time.. but I am still very much a noob on that theme.. so appreciate any feedback that may come
I am MORE Nooby than you! I am looking forward to your postings! I am just fascinated that India may had produced possibly the first coins or were concurrent with Lydia's first coins. OR, rather, how QUICKLY coinage were produced and accepted in separate areas of the globe within such a short period of time: Anatolia/Greece vs. Ancient India vs Ancient China...
What I gathered was that Indian coins were a later development coming from the purification methods developed from the Greeks flowing through Persia and into India. I could be wrong but just read it somewhere
