I recommend that when you get a name and alias to whom you are supposed to give something, search for their old posts to see what interests them. My person seems to like Greek tetradrachms, but I don't think I will give him/her (no hints!) a nice one. There were a few posts on other topics, so I think I can come up with something that will be appreciated without breaking the bank.

I don't know how others would feel about receiving a book or catalog, but I'd love that!

What's worse than three spellings of that cold cut is that all three are actually correct....

Hmmm, Is this a coin talk thread or a Oscar Mayer commercial???

I bought another ancient today, but this one was for my secret Santa. This is the first time in the hobby I buy a coin for someone else, and although an inexpensive coin, it was a real beauty, one that I personally would have been proud to own.

There must be something to this ancient coins community which I just joined when for the first time ever I managed to put the selfish coin collector gene aside, got a coin I would have liked owning, and happily shared it with someone else.

well, i just finished my secret saturnalia shopping. checked through their old posts many times and rejected several coins because they already had one or something similar. i picked up a coin that they didn't have, and went out on a limb a tad bit... i'm a bit nervous they wont like it...i hope they do. :nailbiting::bucktooth:

A bit nervous too about how my giftee will like it (or not), but prevented that by choosing a coin from my own collection (suggesting if I like it others should too) rather than buying one purposely

I've been looking for something for my giftee, but so far have come up empty handed. I may do just the same as Cucumbor.

I agree with @Cucumbor. I searched thru past threads, and found a coin from my personal collection which I know my giftee does not have. I have cherished it for over 10 years, but am pleased to help build someone else's ancient collection.

If you have me, I want an Athenian Owl, but if for some strange and incomprehensible reason you do not fancy spending $1,500 on my gift, I will settle for a nice 4rth century Roman coin, a Ptolemaic Bronze, or a cheap Republican or Roman denarii or other denomination of coinage where you can still read the emperor's name/or inscription and somewhat tell who it is.

Or you can just get me anything you'd like. That's fine too...as long as its an Athenian Owl ;)

OK folks, we have 22 signed up and matched at this point. If you sent me a PM and I didn't assign you a giftee, please let me know! My poor inbox is flooded at this point, and I've tried to keep careful track of all the matches on a spreadsheet, but it's entirely possible I missed someone.

And we all certainly appreciate all the work you put forward in this community.

Hopefully the person I received will be pleasantly surprised.

Just the effort and thought that I see going into this year's gift-giving ensures that I'll be happy with whatever I receive, regardless of what it is.

I'm away from home for two weeks, but I know exactly what from my collection will be going to my giftee. It's a bit of a trek for the biga express to get from my place to theirs, but hopefully they'll be receiving it by the second week of December.
