I'm pretty sure no one who is a collector himself (herself) would disclose such an important information to others. They would know what it means for themselves, wouldn't they ?

i've been shopping for saturnalia presents, i may even give some to someone besides myself. :shifty:

are we still going for about the 20 buck range as a rule of thumb?

I am willing to participate, but would it be OK if I gave as a gift a modern-ish coin? Or does it have to be exclusively ancient?

There's a Secret Santa going in Coin Chat for moderns. We're trying to distinguish ourselves by only exchanging ancient, byzantine, medieval...along those lines.

As to the other, I'm not putting any dollar amount limit on this. Last year, the item I really wanted to gift cost more than the proposed $20, so I just went ahead and bought it. I suspect a rule about cost limits would get broken anyway.

Ok, I'm not interested in getting moderns as a gift. I'll bite. Now that I know I have an ancient coins dealer on my way to work I'll pick up something ancient for my secret santa...and I want something ancient too :)

You'll have to PM me your address and I'll assign you a giftee.

Ummm, I didn't know that there was an actual dollar amount limit ... and it's already too late to stop the dog-sled (oh well, it's close enough)

Thankfully I noticed yesterday that the dealer I went to yesterday has a few decent, but not rare or overly expensive, ancients . So whomever my secret Santa giftee is, your coin is coming from a beautiful coin shop in a palm studded and gorgeous neighborhood in Coral Gables, Florida. Think about that and let it keep you warm as you are buried 5 feet in snow somewhere in the north.

My gift will be heading out early December. I have it ready to go but it is going to one of you Americans and if I shipped it out now it would be more of a Happy Thanksgiving than a Secret Santa gift!

Ho Ho Ho. I just sent a gift overseas so it would get there in time for the Saturnalia festivities. I just learned it will arrive on November 16. Ooooops.

Has a gift opening day been specified or can we just dig-in when we get stuff.

I think Saturnalia runs from about 17 to 23 December.

Thanks @Pishpash for supplying dates! If I get my gift early, I will wait until December 17th to open (and later if I have the willpower, but don't count on that happening!)

Yah, I'm gonna open my gift as soon as it arrives (whether I fess-up is a totally different story, my coin-friends)

... oh, and I really don't care if my giftee opens-up their coin when it arrives either (I'm no longer 10 years old => ummm, although I may act like it every now and then, eh?)

This is merely a cool gift-giving idea ... even the Jewish kids should jump-in (they can open-up their gifts on one of their holidays, right?)

    Ho-Ho-Ho-Hanukkah!! (is that wrong?)

    :panda:

You know I participated in the modern one twice and loved my gifts both times. In fact, I still do. I sent out an ancient the first year...who ever received it never bothered to post it or even that they received it. No idea now who it was or if they liked it.

I always worry the receiver won't actually like it. Hopefully all goes well!
