    Here are the GOOD.
Three more coins for my LS "Arrows at Date" set.
    That means two to go.
Not pretty but they are mine.

    Now, here's the STUPID.
I made this purchase from memory rather than consulting my wantlist.
    I wanted a Draped Bust/Small Eagle Dime (1796-1797).
    I bought a Draped Bust/Small Eagle Half Dime (1796-1797), a coin I already had.

Don't let it get you down. I have to carry my inventory list at coin shows to keep from getting confused and doing the same thing.

I like that half dime. I wouldn't call it stupid. That's one I don't got either. Only small eagle draped bust I got is a dollar

I ended up buying a note that I already had at the Whitman show. I had my currency list with me but unfortunately the print quality was not good and a few lines were unreadable. Wasn't an expensive purchase though.

Ended up taking another chance on a nicely-toned unc early 19th century coronation jeton. I knew I had one of that type coming in the mail, but the shipment is taking its sweet time and I hadn't received it yet. The one I had already purchased was a 1 ducat weight, and I suspected this one was a 2 ducat weight. It's hard to tell based on the size since there is only a couple mm difference and the planchets aren't uniformly round. Well I got home and weighed the token and sure enough it was the 2 ducat weight version so I lucked out there. Next time I go to a show I'm going to bring a scale with me.

My "stupidity" part is not that I bought a coin I already have
    BUT
that I've tied up that much money in a coin that I didn't need (or want).
That amount would have gone a LONG way towards the 1797 Dime that I did want.

I could flip it but of course I won't get back what I paid for it.

Fantastically rare purchases and I hope the Whitman show was a lot of fun. I'm actually thinking that stupid purchase is my favorite of the lot though.....it's down right stunning.
Whenever someone expresses disappointment at a purchase like that, the other collectors start to circle :) Myself included.
Soooo.....Any chance we could ask the grade on it?

I've bought before too. I have this big binder which has checklists of coins from several different countries. I use spreadsheets to make my lists. It does help.

Kanga - can you contact the dealer maybe he will accept a return or maybe just work something out with them. Never hurts to ask.

PS - I have made mistakes like that when I even had my want list with me. Which made it even worse. Of course it was low dollar items. :)
