You can do registered priority mail. I sent a package to PCGS from the east coast this way, it took less than two days.
Thank god I read this day's forum and thank you for bringing this up! I'm on ssi and can't take a burn from some jerk for any expensive piece I may have to sell! You've helped many others too I'm sure....
I totally agree about slowness of Registered Mail--but it is the most SECURE. Just FYI all my submissions to PMG are sent back by them via Registered Mail and it takes eight(8) days from PMG in Florida to me in Mississippi. But one can never be too careful with such items.
Who complains about shipping charges? If it is an auction, most will just deduct a high shipping charge from their bid. I received a lot of 9 large cents from Quebec. The seller charged $10 shipping. I didn't care. I just know I paid $7 a piece with shipping and two draped bust and a decent G04 looking classic cent were included.
My parents have signed for packages with my name on them (dozens of times) with standard signature confirmation. I've never showed my ID for any package. But that's because I've never received a Restricted delivery package
Thank you so much for this info. I got taken selling an unlocked cellphone once and some other item, but didn't know that there was a solution. Tour info is greatly appreciated!! BTW, have you noticed the signs now in the post offices. They say that you can't film opening the package!
Yea I guess restricted delivery puts all the responsibility on the postal service should the buyer say they didn't receive it. Good to know. I'm guessing the post office is guarding against people who open a package, retape it, and then film the reopening. I don't think the post office should discourage people from filming in the event the item is supposed to be valuable. Instead the post office should probably say that they won't consider video in a claim against them, but discouraging it could reduce someones ability to defend themself if it goes to court and the receiver gets countersued.
Registered mail is billed as Priority postage Plus the Registratio fee for the declared value, and it can be and often is shipped in a Priority mail box, but it is handed and shipped as Registered mail. There is no "pay more for faster delivery" option. Sometime a piece of registered mail will move quickly, but you can't count on that.
