That's primarily why I bought it. I didn't pay much for it either. Cleaning hairlines are evident on the coin, but not glaring. Overall, happy with a "Details" coin. It's the only one I own that I purchased. I have 2 others that were bagged when I sent them for grading. The other reason I bought the coins was for a teaching experience for me. I don't think this coin was harshly cleaned. The coin still has nice luster, etc... I wanted to have it as a reference. If it wasn't a key date, I wouldn't have bought it for these purposes.
I've bought a few some like the large cent the problem didn't really bother me. Others I wish I hadn't bought some I really didn't understand why they bagged em and sent em back and got a clean grade
I've got a capped bust half that I bought raw at a coin show. The patina and toning are similar to many of the seated coins you've posted. Not the outrageously toned ones, but attractive none the less. The coin I'm referencing appears to have been lightly cleaned in the past and has now re-toned. I discussed this with the dealer when I bought it. When I asked to see the coin, he was the one who said he felt it was cleaned, so it was above board. Needless to say, I still liked the coin and bought it at a nice discount. I plan to send it in with a couple other coins later this year.
Bought this at a show over the weekend for $4, along with many more problem coins. Why would someone do this to this coin I guess that if it was not a problem coin I would not have got it for $4 though
Here are two from the junk bin May be a problem coin but I like it, bought it the same show as the two cent piece. Unidentifiable. Here's another one I got there.
That's an MS-70 compared to mine. I found it metal detecting in very poor soil. Considering it was underground for 200+ years it does not look perfect In fact you need to hold it to the light at the right angle to clearly see the horse head, you also can only see a few letters and it's hard to see the sheild. I will post it herehere when I get the chance
