I really hate that I can't seem to take good pictures with my iPhone 11S. Many on these boards take lovely pictures and I just can't manage. I recently bought a 1970 D half that was MS 65-66 quality that was not slabbed and never was able to capture its wonderful lustre and presentation.
Congrats. A Caballito has been on my short "to do" list for a while now. Still don't have one. They've gotten so much pricier in recent years! Kind of the way British Trade dollars have. Both are types I've owned in the past, but have been unable to get a quality example of nowadays without significant sticker shock.
I feel your pain. I use an iPhone XR for my basic shots that only need to be adequate, but for all the better stuff in my collection, I just have the pros do it. I always opt for the professional photography option in my TPG submissions. The photos are often as important to me as the eventual grades are.
Yes indeed. I think I will get it graded by PCGS at Baltimore along with a couple others and get their photos. I tried again this AM and no better on the photos: Looks very AUish in the photos with dull lustre and wear not seen in hand. Yikes
Regarding the photos, you could try different backgrounds. Your camera tries to adapt to the lighting in the picture and sometimes it emphasizes the wrong things. I've been using a gray background (I use the cardboard that comes with stamps when you order them online) for silver coins and getting better results. I'm by no means the best coin photographer on here but I think I'm better than I was. I used a Google Pixel phone.
What type of lighting? I just use natural or occasionally the kitchen overhead - not exactly museum type...
I just use my ceiling light so nothing too complicated for me. I know I could do better if I really tried. I've seen people recommend using two lights from different sides with something over them to mute the light. I just don't have the setup for that though.
I think I will get this graded at the Baltimore show. In hand, and looking at my other "Cabs" it should be about a 63, believe it or not. Anyway, looking for both 1911s and am kind of pissed about the Unc. Details on my 1914....May send that it for a grade AGAIN at NGC, as PCGS did not see what I saw (beauty in the eye of the beholder!).
I will post in this space the grade from NGC (if it ever gets back) along with a couple of others....Hah, that will be a minute or two!
