Panama was a Spanish colony until 1821. Since 1821 until 1831 Panama was a part of Great Colombia. At 1831 Great Colombia was devided into Ecuador, Venezuela and the Republic of New Granada (Colombia + Panama). Since that time Panama was a part of the Republic of New Granada.
At February 27 1855 Republic of New Granada became a federation and Panama became an autonomous state of this federation.
At 1858 Republic of New Granada was transformed to Confederation of Granada and Panama became an autonomous state of this country. Five years later (at 1863) Confederation of Granada was transformed to United States of Colombia. Panama was a part of this country.
Republic of Panama was proclaimed at November 3 1903. At November 6 1903 United States of America recognized Republic of Panama.

Monetary system of Panama is simple: 100 centesimos = 1 balboa. At the same time, USD - is a lawful currency of payment.

    I'll add one, Fifty Centesimos, 1905, silver .900, weight - 25g, size 38.1mm, mintage -1,000,000.
Believe it was the only denomination issued in 1905.
This type only issued in 1904 (mintage 1,800,000) & 1905.
1,000,000 of the combined dates later melted down to issue a 1 Balboa (minted at San Francisco, 1931).
