In terms of functionality, the Susan B Anthony dollar is the obvious choice, followed by the Buffalo Head nickel, which had serious technical problems with the design. But the Anthony design is not terrible if the quarter didn't exist. In terms of design, Seated Liberty is among the worst. The Liberty resembles a man (specifically George Washington) and her head is turned too much. I also don't like the flowing hair because the naturalistic eagle looks weak. The peace dollar is a poor design for the opposite reason. Liberty is too seductive and sexy in that one, and inappropriate for the manner in which she is used. The Morgan design is a good compromise between the two. Regal and beautiful at the same time.
My 2 choices are the Barber type coins.... Lady Liberty who looks like a "Mr. Liberty" to me is a disgrace. And I will agree on the Peace Dollar, reverse is stunning, Obverse looks like Lady Liberty is stoned
Lincoln wheat back Lincoln memorial Lincoln shield (Dis) Honorable mention: Illinois commemorative half None of the reverses are particularly bad--in fact, the reverse on the commemorative is one of my favorites in the series-edit political
Presidential Dollars - I swear these were patterned after Chuck E Cheese tokens! 1926 Sesquicentennial half - actually like the design, but they minted it with such a low relief it is hard to appreciate Buffalo nickels - Sorry, much too cluttered and the date disappeared as soon as it hit someone's pocket! I must be one of the only people who thinks the Liberty 'V' nickel is one of the most beautiful coins, especially in higher grades.
Well, as long as it's been revived, I'll add my least favorable designs: 1) Liberty Head V Nickel or as I like to call it: Helga V nickel 2) Liberty Head V Nickel: IMO, it's so bad it deserves the two top spots 3) 2005 Jefferson Nickel Obverse: original bust was/is iconic. This is comical.
3): St.G $20. Yes I know this is everyone's favorite coin but I really don't like the obverse. The reverse saves it from being higher on this list. 2): Walking Liberty Half. Again most people won't agree with this but, the reverse has wayyyy to much going on however the obverse saves it. 1): Type 2 Standing Liberty Quarters. Once a again, a case of to much going one but on both side. I actually like the type 1 version and I don't understand why they changed it.
Well, it's good that you aren't afraid to "type" your mind. You're right, I think most would not agree with you. I don't care for the Standing Liberty Quarter much either. I think the obverse is way to "crowded". They could of simplified the design and I would have liked it better. IMO, it looks like Ms. Liberty is stepping out of the witness stand in a courtroom.
I like standing quarters especially type 1. They'd be a lot better if quality control was better and the majority have awful strikes
1 SBA dollars 2 Liberty V nickels, any Jefferson after 2006 3 The Washington quarter And must add it truly would be refreshing if the cent was discontinued , the nickel, dime and quarter redesigned , it's been way to long looking at a quarter that looks like just a head. A nickel that is really scary . .....and a dime that needs a face lift. The .50 and 1.00 coins redesigned , to something the masses may accept and use.
1. 2005- nickel obverse. The relief is so low it looks like someone made it with a sharpie. 2. Washington Quarters (Is this an XF or a G?) 3. Presidential Doll- *gets shot* But seriously, the design doesn't bother me as much as the metal. These things get real ugly real fast. 69th post
Ike's not beautiful but I like the reverse. And I always had a bit of a soft spot for them cause as a kid I'd exchange a $1 bill for them at the bank cause it was a silver dollar
Not an Ike fan either, but for some inexplicable reason, I have collected the Silver Ikes. Like the man, not the coin design.
1.Morgan Dollars, Liberty is just ugly on it & the reverse is pretty boring. The patterns of the Morgan though were alot nicer. 2. Currently circulating coinage. All of the coins are just boring featuring long gone presidents and boring reverse types. Even the state quarters and national park reverses are ho hum. I actually think the Sacagawea was the nicest u.s. coin in a long time. 3. Matron heads.
