Honestly, '09-S VDBs should go for like $200, if not less. There are many coins that have much lower mintages and survival numbers and they can be obtained for under $100 almost all of the time.

I'm trying to finish my book and if there is a VG out there at a reasonable price I'd pay it but would need to see a picture too.

Understood. I wasn't really referring to the moderns. I collect some that appeal to me, but I'm not spending a lot of money in that area. IMO, moderns are very dangerous to play in the high grades since there are still so many rolls out in collectors hands.

Coins like morgans with pops in the high thousands even on rare dates bring high dollars cause there's so much demand. I just think collecting coins that have lower mintages and are far rarer more appealing to me. Still think all presidential and modern coins suck tho. I only have a few cause I need them for a type registry set not cause I like them

This doesn't make any sense coming from you Bill. I've never known you to waste money on useless coins just to be a part of the rat race that really only benefits the TPGs, especially with a registry type set.

Come back from the dark side brotha, that look doesn't fit you very well.

That's how I was with my type set too. If it wasn't silver, I wasn't interested. Although, I was after small white ANACS holders at the time. Just something about those holders that I really like.

Congrats on making it to the Top 50

I havent been buying much either, except for quarters and some paper money. Ive been trying to be more selective, plus I already have like the 20 easiest seated quarters to obtain, so its just slowing down a bit naturally for me.

I dont have dem dollas for the Gardner coins.

Not for sale. I believe that anyone selling keys at this time are batty"sic" As soon as this modern frenzy dies down, the true collectors will go back to old school. The price's will then plummet on the modern and skyrocket on the good old keys. Just saying.

I will have to admit. I did buy the first two coin and chronicles sets. That 17000 mintage was just too good to pass up.

Any 20th century coin with a mintage less than 1 million is instantly mega-popular.

Why I'm not much on 20th c coins I got coins with mintages of 20k or so that are considered common dates

I agree that seated dimes are under-rated. They never go for anywhere near any guide price. Also under-rated are buffalo nickels and walking liberty halves. Over-rated, modern silver coins. I don't understand the premiums on them along with silver eagles.

Huh? High grade or tough date seated dimes and seated coinage in general nearly ALWAYS bring over any guide price. The prices for seated coinage in the redbook are a joke. I look at coinfacts and auction prices for a value. Case in point. I have a 1873 no arrows closed 3 with nice color that came back as ms 65. Wholesale Book price is $1200 I found only 2 on ha archives period. Both had little eye appeal and sold in the $13-1400 range in the mid 2000s. How do you price a coin that has little auction records and has a pop of 5 in 65 2 higher. The book is not the way to go on these. Anything with good eye appeal and original skin is always snapped up for far over book price. Look at the Gene Gardiner sale. I feel seated dollars underrated and think they'll be a good investment when the new book comes out. I have one in my type set has a mintage of 7500!!
