Wow, a golden monkey. Now you've sparked my interest into stamps even more! ;-)

Don't think that coins and stamps are similar, except that (in countries where postal services are government agencies) both are issued by or on behalf of some ministry. Coins and paper money, that I understand, both are mediums of exchange that can be used many times. A stamp can be used one time only, for the services of one company only.

For some weird reason (habit, I guess) I have always found it OK or even nice that stamps and notes/bills are colored. Painted coins however ... meh. :)

Et voilà the "penny black" crown:

... commemorating the 175th anniversary of the first stamp ever minted... err... printed :)

While there are many more "coins on stamps", you can indeed have a couple of "stamps on coins". :) Here are two that commemorate the 150th anniversary of the country's first stamp. Images from the mint sites.

Austria 20 Schilling 2000 (obverse only; the reverse is the regular one) and, below, Portugal 5 Euro 2003.

I think I finally recovered from that vicious stamp-virus. Just bought this little gem (seller's pics):

I was looking at PSE certified stamps. A slightly higher grade implied a $100 bump in value (eg from $20 to $120) and I couldn't even tell a difference. Stamp collectors are "worse" then we are LOL So back to coins :)
