as I am going along closely examining all of my 2009 pennies looking for errors I come across this. On the left shoulder where you would normally see the wrinkles of the shirt I see a kind of blob (only word I can think of to describe it though probably not accurate) can anyone tell me if this is an error of some sort or ??? Iv looked up as much of the known errors for the 2009 as I can and I haven't found anything yet. Here are some close up pictures through my magnifying glass as well as a side by side comparison of another 2009 formative years cent. Thanks
I have also seen this. I am keeping all my 2009s till more info comes out, it seems like everyone I have is different...lol
Same here I have quite a few! Almost as many wheat backs, but I have a few pounds of those it seems to me that the 2009s have a list of errors/variations each but I have yet to find one with exactly the same error. Some are really close to the known errors but slightly off. HOPEFULLY someone can shed some light on these dang 2009s!!
its most likely a die chip, there are hundreds of 2009 doubled dies and lots of them have markers such as die chips, cracks and gouges, http://doubleddie.com/92301.html
Thank you! I'll look more at that site! I was just going to post another thread but you may of just answered my question! My question was "what is this?" (See attached photo) and now I'm guessing it's a die chip?? In the "9" in 1960 and in the "R" in liberty. Also attached a pic of the back just in case some one wanted to see that as well.
That was the year I was born that's why it's the best haha. But for real that's pretty amazing! Are the ones above die clips? Are they worth anything?
yes those are die chips, a piece of the die chipped off leaving a gap for the metal to flow into resulting in those small lumps of metal on your coin, they usually carry no premium, but you will find people selling them on ebay, there are a few state quarters with chips that sold for a few bucks because of where the chip was, like the Alaska quarter where the chip gave the bear an "extra claw" and the Arizona "extra cactus leaf" chip which covered the designers initials and looked like a cactus leaf..these you can still find if you google them because they were "named"...
The cherrypickers guide just came out and it has a list of the doubled dies for the 2009 Lincoln cents. As for your coin my opinion is die chip.
