    Picked this up at the local coin club auction for $14. Upgrading the type set, previous coin had two holes in it :D

    Are those elongated stars reaching for the rim normal? Is that a worn die issue? Just curious.

    Yes, you see that on 19th century U.S. coins. I see it most often on Bust half dollars, but that’s probably because I look at them more. It’s the result of die wear which occurs as the dies strike more and more coins.

    That makes me wonder, which coins are more desired if any? Ones with early or later die stages.

    I am an early die state collector, but look at those who prefer cuds and die breaks, and will see other opinions.
