john41 Toned coins, I like them. If I have it so can you.

So here is the coin and would like to know what people think of the obverse toning[IMG] and what it could be worth as it is not the standard rainbow colors.

I like the range you provided, very precise down to the decimal point.

Very beautiful - I've had NT Morgans with ALOT more blue on them! Actuall textile tones from the bag where you can see the cloth pattern in the blue. How they get there I don't know. Just have seen and had examples.

I have had many toned Morgans. As to the textile toning there have been many ideas talked about and one of the best answers is that coyote urine and some other animal urine got on the bags during storage.

I'd think it wouldn't get near the high end as that's usually for rainbow toners . But you're right if 2 people want it and have the $$$$$ the skies the limit .

That's been my observation, too, as regards the rainbow toners. Still, I think this one has possibilities. I may as well get into that. The first thing is something nobody even talks about, much less is probably even conscious of, and yet is probably the single-most important determinant in how we feel about a coin, the eye-movement through the coin. Eye-movement is just that, how our eyes move through the coin. Painters control how we feel about their artwork by controlling that aspect, our eye-movement. Put a big green spot off the tip of her nose. That's going to cut this price in half, as it's going to keep jerking our eyes back to it. I don't care if the spot is "NT," "AT," or "QT." I don't care if it's rust, corrosion, or verdigris. It's an eye-magnet. Our eyes aren't going through that coin as they should, but are constantly being drawn back to that spot. Take the green on the perimeter. Isn't that where our eyes are? I'll bet we stared at that ten times more than we stared at the opposite end, if our eyes even focused, at all, on the opposite end. That green is an eye-magnet, too, but a pleasant one, a graceful one, one that blends in.

I can write a book on this. Lol, let's just call this a piece of it.

The color on the left rim drew me to the coin more after the initial look.

physics-fan3.14 You got any more of them.... prooflikes?

That is very attractive toning, but there is a lot better out there. I'd expect a premium for it, but not a really large one. Retail price guide on it says $70 (this is a very common coin in low to mid grades).

I'd expect yours might go in the $100 - $125 range, maybe.
