I agree. To me, it is worth the money. If the OP's coin got a 66, then yours is a 67...lol. Seriously, I think it is awfully close to 66, and worth the double jump in value, especially if it gets a star, and I see no reason based on the obverse for that not happening. The 85cc for sure is the same thing--that is a really good date, and if it is even close, it is worth the shot. My 85cc is a 64 and not close to getting the 65 or a star.

Here is my 1885cc--for comparison purposes--this is definitely NOT more than a 64 IMHO. It has eye appeal in hand, and some nice toning, but the surfaces are not as clean as the obvious gem coins. I hope the OP is reading this:

I looked at many, many 85 cc graded MS65 before I purchased mine. I wanted to make sure the devices were "65" caliber as well as the fields. I think I'll pull it out of storage this weekend and assess it again. Thanks for your thoughts and encouragement.

I love the GSA holdered cc's. I have many 64 DPL's as I think they're special. Here's one of them. Also a better date:

I've used slab renew on the slab reverse to minimize the scuffs. These are the sellers pictures.

Yes like most said buy the coin and not the holder but if you are a collector then that would fit you. But most of the times these slab are unseen and that would be hard and when comes in selling then you should be getting selling price.

As collectors it would be hard to buy coins in slab that you can get a good pic from unless you are there to see the coin itself. And to pick up rare or scares coins tthat is where of them are from Online either auction site or big companies. Unless you are so rich with bottomless pit with money then you can fly there to buy it on site.

@redcent230 , I bought many of my GSA's on eBay. I made decisions based on their photos. In the common cc dates (82, 83 & 84), there are so many on eBay that if they didn't have a good picture, I didn't even consider it. When it comes to some of the other dates, 80, 81 & 85: still plenty to choose from, but it will take time to find the right coin.

I did the same--bought the commons on eBay, and went on picture and price for certified NGC ribbon GSAs. I flipped a few of the sets, until I found ones that I really like--it took two tries. For the less common dates and big ones, I did Heritage and David Lawrence auctions. I have all 13 dates---12 are MS, and the 89cc is XF 45.

    I still don't have all of them. I do have multiples of the common dates. 64 DPL's, 65's 65+, etc... I also own a 1880 80/79 Rev. of 78. It's only MS63. I don't have a picture of it, but IMO, it's a 63.

I bought my '78 cc @ Heritage. I thought it was strong for the grade.

I really need to save to get the '79, '90 and '91.

I think that one is under graded (the 1878cc). I would say it is 65 all day. The reverse looks PL from the picture--not so the obverse, but it is a really nice coin. I think you would get a bump in grade with a resubmit, but not financially worth it.

The tough one for me to buy was the 93cc in MS condition---that was a LOT of money, and got it through David Lawrence about 4 years ago.

@Morgandude11 , thanks for the props on the '78 cc. I'd love to see pics of your tougher date GSA's. Since I'm still relatively new to this hobby, I'm not disciplined enough to save for those dates. lol. Too many coins, so little time...

On a side note, I just got a whole bunch of coins back from PCGS and, while I am no expert, seeing their grades feels like they threw darts on a board to attribute them. And the more valuable the year, the lower the grade. I had one come back cleaned that looked better than one that came back 65, and even a couple of AU58s with full luster. But my Ike dollar got a 67! There was only one Morgan, it got a 62 (non CC). I had four Washington quarters, one came back a 64 with a hit on the cheek and one came back 63 looking flawless. I even had a Franklin that came back FBL with a slice through the lines! I love sending coins in but if there is no rhyme or reason to their grades, maybe I should stop sending them in.

Sure--they have been posted a few times, but here ya go--as you notice, some are GSAs and some are out of the GSA slab, but were GSA horde. Here are the better dates--I have posted the commons many times. 79cc.jpg 79ccrev.jpg 80cc.jpg 80ccrev.jpg 81cc.jpg 81ccrev.jpg 85cc rev.jpg 85cc.jpg 89cc1.jpg 89cc1rev.jpg :

Thanks---I thought you were going to say that the 93cc is baggy--it is very baggy but has great luster in hand. A typical low grade MS (it is a 62)l but then again, not an easy date. ANY MINT 1893 is brutal on finding a nice example for the money.

    That's a really clean cheek for MS62.

Also, did your '79 make PL?
