Wait - where are all the "buy the coin, not the slab" folks? Anyway, I have two ANACS graded 8 Reales and almost everyone who has seen them says they are under-graded. I've seen MANY over-graded NGC coins, especially one of my favorites - Eisenhower dollars. I have quite a few NGC graded coins but only one NGC Ike (a blank planchet "mint error"). I have had no issue with ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. All have their plusses and minuses. As far as resale it does seem that PCGS demands a premium over the other two.

As far as the original post, I screwed up an order with them a while back and sent in 10 coins, five of which were foreign. The special was US only, but I contacted them via e-mail and they were very pleasant, and honored my screw-up and the special offer price. Granted my foreigns were under the $500 value limit, but I'd bet they would help you out in some way. Please keep us advised.

This is certainly not true for everyone. For an absolutely identical coin (like a MS70 ASE) I'd pay a bit more for PCGS only because I like the new holder better than the others. I'd probably flip a coin between an ANACS or NGC holdered coin.

But on the SELL side, when one parts with a coin. If a dealer says he is buying MS65 Morgans, he will usually take NGC or PCGS but not the other third tier companies

I have crossed over ANACS to NGC - always got the same grade. They do grade accurately IMHO. I would not send particularly gold to PCGS. They will doctor your coins (harsh cleaning, etc.) if they mess up.

I tried a similar experiment with one of the ANACS specials a couple years ago. The coins I got back were all either slightly overgraded or marked as details for very minor issues that should have been net graded. The overgraded coins were just overgraded in ANACS holders and it didn't add any value. The details coins likewise didn't tell me anything I didn't already know. In the end I ended up sending them all to NGC anyway and it was a total waste.

    V. Kurt Bellman Yes, I'm blunt! Get over your "feeeeelings".

I don't understand these last 2 posts. NGC does not crossover ANACS coins. They need to be cracked out and submitted raw. NGC will only accept PCGS for crossover.

ANACS of the small slab era had a better reputation than the current half round topped slab era.

They probably meant they cracked them out, then sent to ngc.

Oh they were all crackouts of course, but you can submit non-PCGS slabs to NGC and they will crack them out for you if you submit a consent form.

Exactly - some coins I did de-slab myself just to see if NGC would grade higher or lower. Some others, NGC sent me an e-mail requesting permission to remove the coin. I would try NGC if you want repeatable grades. They actually do give you free submissions in coupon form based on membership tier - so there's not much to lose. I do however avoid their 5 oz ATB coins - not been happy with grades or coin quality.

I am a member of ngc, and the ngc coins I am submitting to anacs were submitted to ngc by me.

So looks like ANACS let me grade these gold coins for the same price! At least, I think they are fairly close to being done grading, and the price they charged me so far was in line with the promo. Has anyone else submitted some coins during this latest promo? They received mine on the 5th, and estimated ship date is the 26th. I am eagerly checking every day to see if they have shipped/had grades posted yet.

If I had coins I wanted to liquidate (at a good price) I would pay to have PCGS or NGC do the deed.

Why? Well, I only buy slabbed coins from those two. Debate all we wish about the virtues of ANACS and buying the coin and not the slab, which I do. When it comes time to sell, which one will draw the quickest and best deal?

Again, only anacs will acknowledge some of the errors I am hoping for. This is also a cheap way to screen some of the coins. If some turn out good, they will probably be sent to NGC to maximize value. I would not pay full price for anacs grading, but at a little over $11 each, I felt it was a good deal.

Oh yeah ? ??? Well... Well....
If I had the choice between a Gem BU Morgan (sight unseen) in a small white Anacs slab or a new pcgs/ngc slab, I would take the small white Anacs 100 times out of 100

Hands down Anacs does a better job with Morgan Dollars and I don't care what anybody says....
And don't even get me started on Vam attributions

I`m curious about the downfall of ANACS respectability in the industry. when did they fall off the cliff was it around the time they stopped the small holders? i know they changed hands a few times was this the cause? is it because of their business with HSN?

ANACS seems to be right on the scene with endless MS70 and PR70 grades when HSN does its quick flips with U.S. Mint releases

Actually with ANACS position in the market, they always seem willing to work with submitters and honor whatever special they have running. Ive noticed that a few times from various posters on this board.

At least they have good customer service when it comes to making their clients happy.

Me too for the most part, unless its an ANACS Old White Holder.

I will consider other TPG coins when I am at a show though so that I can look at the coin in hand and make a better decision on its grade and condition, etc.
