I've had "Greek silver tetradrachm" on my list for quite some time, some of the ones you all post here are lovely! Was also hankerin' for a seulucid, hadn't picked one up for quite a while. I odered this one on October 9th, got to my house in Illinois form Germany on the 15th...not to shabby. Neither is the coin. SELEUKID KINGS OF SYRIA. Philip I Philadelphos, 95-83 BC. Tetradrachm. Antioch. O: Diademed head right. R: ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΦΙΛΙΠΠΟΥ ΕΠIΦΑΝΟΥΣ ΦIΛΑΔΕΛΦΟΥ. Zeus seated left with Nike and sceptre: Control: monogram. SNG Israel 2799. Condition: Very fine. Weight: 15.7g. Diameter: 26 mm. This fellow was about the last of the line for the once mighty Seleucids. His name means "brother loving", he tolerated some of his brothers...and some he didn't. Syria was a mess of various family members engaged in civil war with foreign governments (Nabateans, Ptolemy crew) getting in the mix. Sound familiar? I think Philip pretty much just controlled Antioch by this point, so it's almost a "civic issue". Soon this cat named Tigranes the Great from Armenia rolled through, that's pretty much the end of the empire. Tigranes then got beat by the Romans, there was a brief Seleucid puppet king, but soon Syria was a Roman province. All of the above is paraphrased from Wikipedia. Man, does this thing feel nice in hand. Feel free to post your silver tetradrachms, Seleucid coins, or anything from Syria.
Chrs, Wonderful Tet---just gorgeous!! I just have the two I recently acquired and posted more than a few times lately----the Antiochus group---(sounds like a hedge fund LOL)

Awesome addition Chris, everyone needs a Greek Tet. These coins are some of the most amazing coins there are! Antiochus VIII you can see the family resemblance.
