    hi all,

    my 1e denarius and its BC.
    L. Hostilivs Saserna, Rome c. 48. AR Denarius. Head of Gallia r.; Gallic trumpet (carnyx) behind / Diana of Ephesus standing facing, holding spear and stag by its antler. RRC 448/3; RSC Hostilia 4.

    18 max
    1.96 gr (at 1e strike about 4 gr)
    sorry for bad picture batteries gone empty

    Nice find. Gallia is strange to me, but not Diana.

    You found that while metal detecting? I'm so jealous! I've been wanting a Hostilivs Saserna denarius for a while now (it's a perfect Halloween coin... very creepy). Congratulations!!

    Aren't we all? I would love to see a better image when you get the chance. I can't tell if the carnyx is visible on your coin.

    I don't know that it would be considered rare, but it is definitely less common than many Republican denarii and the type does generally cost more than others.
