I agree with JWT, sounds reasonable to me. Then you will find a specialty, and 350 coins later wonder what happened. THEN, 3500 coins later you will have your wife giving you the old stinkeye every time a small padded manila envelope comes in the mail.......

He said he doesn't have a wife so it will be up to his dog to give him the old stinkeye when he runs out of dog food and starts putting celery sticks in the bowl.

Well, 3500 ancients do take a while, so I guess I was assuming he would pick up a wife who would put up with his collecting in the meantime. :)

You don't just "pick up a wife." You've got to spend a bunch of coin money on a girlfriend first.

Well dogs will...at least for the most part...like you mentioned.

@stevex6 care to comment on how much they'll put up with?

Yeah, its sad to spend the price of a nice denarius just on dinner. Man, the ring could have bought me a nice gold Alexander!

Is it sad when you equate the value of everyday items in terms of ancient coins you could have bought instead?

I dunno. Being from West Virginia, I just picked out one of my cousins when she was 15. No problems. If she wanted to go out on a date, I took her fishin' and huntin'. For fun, we tipped cows. No money worries there. But after the wedding......

The gold coins of Alexander the Great are some of my favorite types. Great purchase!

I don't have a dog either. Or kids. Just me in my bachelor pad, and the occasional date. Mind you, i always think being an ancient coin collector is a dark and geeky secret that i have to hide from my dates - like being a Star Trek fan.

Yeah, it is. We are the "cool kids" in our own mind, but yeah, to everyone else we are like Star Trek nerds. I watch the Big Bang Theory and figure that is how the world views me.
